Do you park your motorcycle in gear?

  • Yes, I park it in gear

  • No, I park it in neutral

Of course I park it in gear. Motorcycles don't have parking brakes so it only makes sense. I simply kick it into first after I kill the engine.

Living in Texas I always carry a small 4"x4" piece of thin plywood under the seat also in case I am somewhere where I can only park on asphalt.
 
The only time I ever leave mine in Neutral is when it's in the garage, which I only do because it's easier to move it around and get it out when I'm going to ride (one less thing to do/think about I guess). But anywhere besides the garage it is ALWAYS in gear when parked. Same goes for the car (but it stays in gear even when in the garage).
 
My kickstand has a detent in it that will not allow it to retract if its fully down with the bike resting on it.....so even if I were to push my bike with the kickstand down, it would not retract and let the bike fall over.....
however, I usually leave it in gear, but I have been known to leave it in neutral l also.
 
i put mine in neutral and turn it to the left to keep as much weight on the sidestand as possible. never had a problem...
 
I always park mine in neutral but I also make sure that if I park it on an incline that the bike is leaning to the left and rear so that the weight is mainly on the rear wheel and on the kickstand. I haven't had to deal with this problem since I parked my bike on a parking lot that was flat. If I were to regularly park it on a hill then I would most likely resort to keeping it in first just in case.

Neutral. On Harleys the kickstand locks down once there's any weight on it. The bike can't roll forward when it's on the kickstand even if it's in neutral. Never parked on a slope so steep that the bike would slide even with the kickstand.

Had to think about it. Neutral...always been neutral. I always start the bike and let it warm up while I gear up.

And yea, like Roguerower wrote...park it so it's trying to roll back and to the left....back and to the left....back and to the left.
The only incline I regularly encounter would be the arc of a street. Park angled so the rear tire wants to roll towards the curb.

I wouldn't park anywhere that being in gear or not is the determining factor of my bike staying upright or falling over.
 
Yes, so that there is no chance of it rolling forward and falling over. It is just a habit I've gotten into, I think it's a good one. I think leaving the bike in neutral is not a good habit. That's just my opinion.

I park in gear on inclines, even slight ones, unless is pretty slight, and I can back her in at a slight angle so its pusing onto the side stand.

do you park it in gear in your garage too?

FWIW MSF hammers you to park in N on flat surfaces, atleast they did when I took the course.

IU generally back into parking spots, so the bike is already in N, and I let the bike warm up a little before riding(you should be doing this, esp with a pricey Duc!, so I have to be in N then anyways)

my opinion is that your opinion is silly 😛

do you use the fork lock? if not, should I go make a poll and call you silly over something so arbitrary? 😉

So do I. I just put it into neutral before I start it.

I usually park on flat surfaces too but I leave it in gear anyway. It's not a determining factor, it's just how I park it.
