if i have a question about connecting the 'front panel system cables' (ie led power, dc sw, hd led..etc) to the motherboard.
should that question go to case & cooling or motherboard topic?

question is how do i know how to plug it in? like what is white cable? ground? what's red? what's black? what about the other colors?
i remember one time, i did it wrong and it almost melted when i turn on the 'puter. quite funny...

haven't made any mistakes again but only after i ask the same question over and over again...

cool, i get better support here than the actual topics...

they are marked with an arrow i suppose... on the cable, the arrow also has KSP on it .
for example, the power led has the green cable with the arrow, and the white cable.

the motherboard has +5V and PLED on it for the power led, i just want to know which end is which.

the board is an asus p4b266-c

i looked at asus site... haven't seen anything remotely interesting....

what do i put in the google search engine? "system panel connector"? i came up with tons of crap...

it's an asus p4b266-c, the case is the one from newegg, the black one with the side fan.

it was easier to figure out how to plug in the front panel usb cables as they are all single connectors.

i could experiment by doing it one way and another to see which is the right way..but it'd be faster to get the answer here.

now, anyone gonna tell me that i don't deserve this mb cause i can't figure out the right way to plug in the front panel system connectors?

ok, the HDD activity light is above your jumpers. It runs parallel with the RAM slots. Its called VPANEL. The top pin in negative and the bottom is postive. If your HDD LED doesnt work, switch the 2 plug connector.

OK, now the other ones.

Here is your block of connectors, i'll refer to them as:
1 0 <--reference number, 1-10
xxxxxxxxxx <--level 1
xxxxxxxxxx <--level 2

The Power LED goes on level 1, the first 3 pins. the 5V side does on the 1 pin and the PL LED pin goes on the 3 pin.

level 1 pins 4 and 5 are the keyboard lock pins. 4 is KEYLOCk and 5 is GROUND

level 1 speakers goes on 7-10. 7 is 5V, 8 and 9 are grounds, and 10 is SPEAKER

level 2 pins 2 and 3 are the message pins. 5V goes on 2 and MLED goes on 3.

level 2 pins 4 and 5 are the SMI Lead pins. ExtSMI goes on 4 and GROUND goes on 5

level 2 pins 6 and 7 are the ATX power switch pins. Pin 6 is PWRBTN and pin 7 is GROUND

level 2 pins 9 and 10 are reset switch pins. Pin 9 is RESET and pin 10 is GROUND.

dude, i have the same mb ..and i have the same problem... i know where the connectors go to on the mb, BUT i don't know which way

ie. the power led has a green wire and white wire... which is suppose to go to the 5v?

same with other wires, like why the different colors? it makes it hard to tell which is ground and which is for +,or -

any one?
