Does ANYONE like it? I wonder if they'll make a new version soon without all the bloated crap.

This is the first version that causes me and discontent

i understand why you all hate winamp 3 load times and teh bloat. i on the other hand dont mind it. its always open on my computer cause i never close it so i only ever have to open it once. and my comp gets restarted 1ce every week or so its not that big of a deal. i just dled a skin that hides all that other crap and it works fine. i use it to play videos also. i used 2.8 to play them also with teh NiceMC video plugin its just kinda convient that its built into this one. other then the load and teh bloat its not any diff teh 2.8 to me anyway

I like it better than WMP. I use it for videos and music. I'm pretty happy with it.

I switched back to winamp 2.xx. Version 3 is such a resource hog that it lags when I try to run it while playing a game contrary to version 2.

3.0 for me.

If they would impliment the playlist editor for 2.xx, I would go back. This thing is awesome for 3.0. I can't do without it anymore.

Had winamp3, switched back. I would have to agree that it bites the big one, for me anyways.

Is it me or is WMP trying to become Winamp while Winamp simultaneously tries to become WMP? I don't need a "total media solution"; I want one (skinnable, with plugins) program that plays and organizes my music collection, and another to play video (with multiple codec support).

AOL is trying to make a media player to compete with the likes of Windows Media Player, Real Player, and Quicktime..

They have a Linux O/S (Red Hat?), a Web Browser (Netscape) and soon, a Media Player (Winamp).. Their biggest competition? Microsoft..

Maybe you see what they have planned..

I agree 100%. It takes far too long to load.

Thank you, I wasn't aware that they were still updating winamp 2.xx (I am pretty sure 2.81 is new, correct me if I'm wrong).

I agree, Winamp 3 is much worse than 2.xx. I've been watching Winamp 3 since the first alpha was released. With most of the new versions, I would download it, try it for 30 minutes, and give up on it, switching back to 2.xx. I kept beleieveing that the final verison would be significantly better, but I seem to have been too optimistic. Oh well :(:frown:

I have a 2.56GHz machine w/512MB DDR. The program loads just as quickly as the previous one, and I like all the added features.

Me too! What do you think so far?

I like the ease with which playlists are created, but somehow dislike the way the library is organized (of course, most of my mp3s were downloaded from napster/gnutella et al). I also dislike the lack of plugin and skin support, and the visualization output leaves a lot to be desired. I believe I would prefer an OSX-native Winamp.

Basically, my favorite feature of winamp was the playlsit. the reason I didn't switch to Sonique a while back was because of how bad the playlist sucked. I've always organized my MP3s the same way iTunes does anyway (by artist, then album), so that seems normal to me. And most of my MP3s are in complete sets based on CDs. I could care less about plugin and skin support really, I never look at my MP3 player except to change songs or volume. SO, so far, I generally like iTunes. I wish it had some sort of auto-ID3 tag option, cause a lot of my songs are missing tags, and I don't want to do them all by hand.

Well, it takes virtually no resources (2.8 that is) so it is convienent to pause a song and pick it up later, not like there's a reason to do that. It is very nice for strategy games, where you aren't worried about split second timing, and can enjoy a good soundtrack, as opposed to the poor stuff many games come with. Also, I media buttons on my keyboard which I've set up to control winamp, so that I can unpause it and listen to music in an FPS when I'm waiting to spawn if I'm bored (yes for that whole 30 seconds I have to wait).
