I was at a local computer shop today that was going out of buisness. They had boxes and boxes of old motherboards/video cards/sound cards/network cards for 50 bucks, so I picked one up. Here's what I got:

Socket8 (PPro?), Intel 82442FX chipset, single processor, 4-72pin SIMM slots, 4 PCI, 4 ISA.

(5) Socket7, Intel 82343VX chipset, 2 DIMMS, 4-72pin SIMM slots, 4 PCI, 3 ISA.

(2) Socket7, Intel 8243FX-66 chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 3 PCI, 4 ISA

(2) Socket7, Intel 8243VX chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 3 PCI, 4 ISA

(4) Socket7, Intel 82437FX66 chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 4 PCI, 3 ISA

Socket7, Intel 82437VX chipset, 1 DIMM, 4-72pin SIMMS, 4 PCI(one of the PCI slots has an extension.. any ideas?) 3 ISA.

Socket7, Intel 82437VX chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 3 PCI, 4 ISA

(3) Socket7, Intel 82439HX chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 4 PCI, 3 ISA

(2) Socket7, Intel 823437FX chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 3 PCI, 4 ISA

Socket7, Intel 82437VX chipset, 1 DIMM, 4-72pin SIMMS, 3 PCI, 4 ISA.

Socket7, Intel 82437FX66 chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 3 PCI, 4 ISA

(4) Socket7, Intel 82437FX-66 chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 4 PCI, 3 ISA, Built in sound (via daughtercard)

Socket5(Real old Pentium?), Intel 82437FX66 chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 4 PCI, 4 ISA

Socket5, Intel 82433NX chipset, 4-72pin SIMMS, 3 PCI, 5 ISA

Socket4(????), Intel 82433LX chipset, 6-72pin SIMMS, 3 PCI, 5 ISA

Socket3, SiS 85C471 chipset, 8-30pin SIMMS, 2-72pin SIMMS, 3 ISA, 3 VLB :D

Socket3, UMC 83C3498 chipset, 2-72pin SIMMS, 4-30pin SIMMS, 4 ISA, 3 VLB :D

Creative AWE sound board.. 2 30pin memory slots(??)
(2)ESS Sound card, ISA

(3) SMC 10/100 PCI NIC
(2) Intel NIC, 10bT, PCI

With enough identical CPU/mobo/memory you can build a kewl 10 node beowulf cluster that equals a Celeron 550Mhz in processing power, but with 10x energy consumption. WOW!!!

j/k, seriously, some cool stuff can be done with Linux on very low end parts. Like a webserver...storage, etc. Maybe if you are a Linux techie, you can set up and sell server kits for peoples home networks to do NAT, file storage and printer sharing. Might not make much money off it, but at least you'll learn a bunch.

Those Pentium Pro mobos would make great servers. Finding the PPros may be a bit more difficult. Unfortunately, the EDO ram requirement will probably prove pretty expensive since it's not produced anymore and demand exceeds supply.

Lastly, you can just head over to FS/FT and sell the stuff, maybe people may want to buy it dirt cheap. Even like 5 bucks profit on each part ain't bad.

Why do some people feel it necessary to bring other peoples garbage into their own home....

So, when your ready to get rid of it, I'll give you $25...

Wow, the FX chipset brings back the old days - build some Linux boxes, thats all they are good for!

Take that ram and offer it up for sale.72 pin simms go for a premium. You could do nicely with just selling of the ram.

I was thinking that some of these boards may be able to do the K6-x 2x remapped to 6x66=400MHz trick... Yeah? ;)

Oh, LOL.. I wish it came with the RAM :Q That's just the expansion capabilities of the boards. The socket-4 board came with a CPU, but it's got a heatsink over it. What the hell is it? :)

Eli:
I'm interested in your 33.6 modems and NICs, how many modems and NICs do you have?

Yeah come on people, thats not all crap at all. You could build quite a few lower end systems or just sell those MB's to people who want to build them. You could donate some of it, or worst case you could always sell them on eB@y! :)

I suspect some of those VX & HX boards might be able to use K6-2 400's or K6-3 400's. Probably not the FX boards though. Its really just a matter of voltage support. Also the Socket-4 boards are Pentium 66/60 MB's. And the Socket-5 are early Pentium 75-120 MB's.
And that Socket-8 is indeed a PPro MB. You can make a nice server/proxy box using that.

Heh. I didn't see all the replies to this thread. :)

Well, I tested them all out. They all work except 3.. forget which offhand, but its a couple of the boards with DIMMs.

Yeah, I'd be willing to part with a few. Money is always good. :)

I'd be interested in your EDO 72pin simms when I get some money, as long as the price is right. They can be damn expensive nowadays.

Voltage support, or amperage supply? I could run the K6-2's at 2.7v.. I noticed some of the boards support 2.5v.. Could even run them at 2.8 if I had too. ;)

Only one modem worked, and I gave it away. All the NICs worked, but they quickly found homes. :) I almost went back and bought the other box I had my eyes on, but it was gone when I came back. Hehe.

Socket 4 was for the ill-fated P60 and P66. They were discontinued as fast as Intel could manage after they introuced the P75 and up.

Those NICs are probably worth the $50 alone, and if you had some CPUs to go with them, some of the Socket 7 motherboards might be useful. Most of it is crap though. :p

Edit: Haha, just noticed the dates on these posts. What possessed you to bring this thread back to life. :D

Hehe... I searched for it because I remembered that I said all the expansion capabilities of the boards, and I wanted to (quickly) see if there were any boards with 6 72pin SIMM slots. (And there is..... but only the lowly P60 board :()

Then I read some of the replies that I hadn't seen before, thought i'd respond, even though the thread was old. ;)

a tip: get a really small case for one of the better boards, then spend some money to get a very compact system going that you can take anywhere :)

One big thing you all missed on what Eli can do with all that stuff (not junk, unless it is broken):build a crack rack for rc5!!!! (get some ram first, i dono if this will help, but i have a ton of 40pin simms)the socket 8, is a PPro, too bad it isn't a dual:( ,dual pro's make great [but so do single pro's] servers, and they do rc5 quite well!(2/180's [w/256k cach] will do 1.0Mk/s and 1/180 [w/256k cach] will do about 500Kk/s)All those pentium's make good crackers.
My 100MGz pentium does 140Kk/s
not like its a huge cracker, but when you have a ton of them you can do some serious cracking!

Grin... That would be cool.. ;) A 30 computer crack-rack that gets like 4mkeys/s :p

Hehe.. I already want to do that, Prodigy. Check out http://www.aaeon.com for some sweet stuff that could be put to good use, for say a car MP3 player. ;)

Wish I had some money, Alpha.. I'd take them off your hands :)
