Hey AT,

Just had the crazy idea that with alot of the parts I have laying around, I can get my g/f off her laptop and into a desktop.

She does some WoW, borderlands, dragon age, etc. All will be on a max res. of 1440x900.

Current pieces I have:

e4300 processor
2gb ram
500w psu (cant remember brand right now but its decent, has new connections, etc)
500gb hdd
monitor
Windows

So, I basically need:

Video
Case
Mobo.

Heres what I have specced right now for those 3.

Case I have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-059-_-Product This rosewill, but its MicroATX. I haven't worked with microATX before..

Any chance that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-059-_-Product This gigabyte board will fit in it?

For video card we'll probably be going with something like a 4670, 4830, or 4770. Nothing too huge, from the comments on the egg, should fit in that case.

Anyone see a problem with the mb/case combo? I'm trying to do this on the super cheap, so having that 20 dollar case in there could do wonders with the budget.

Thanks all!

EDIT: Okay, for 10 bucks more theres http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147010 this full ATX rosewill case....woulda been nice to get something smaller, but maybe worth the size for the compatibility of mainboards...

You linked twice to the motherboard, instead of the case. Either way the motherboard is full atx, you will need a case that can accommodate.

For what you GF plays, then I think a 4670 would be fine. Girls like cute stuff, get here a slim tower and a matx board, and a low profile graphics. Will warn you though, tried building computers for woman before... notoriously apathetic about the whole thing.

Whoops! ill fix the link right now.

TBH, I'd rather not go the low profile route. For one, it can always double as a backup pc/server/htpc if I ever want to.

But more importantly, shes not really the typical girlfriend type. We met on wow, she plays call of duty, borderlands, chrono trigger, whatever. Hell, she has an account on AT, even though shes pretty new :). And the desktop is mostly her idea out of her frustration with her dell laptop with 8600 graphics overheating and overall being a pain.

The link, since I havent fixed it yet, is basically for the ATX version of the same case.

Heres a question, how does the case in question (which ill link to in a second), compare to say, my antec nine hundred in size?

Thanks!

Heres the updated link (also udpated in OP) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147010

The cases are designed to fit certain sizes of motherboard, if it is rated for full atx then it will fit a full atx. The difference in size is primarily in the number of external and internal bays, and in enthusiast cases, extra room for fans and radiator upgrades for water cooling loops. If you have a large cooler you plan to use, then you have to take make sure the case is wide enough for it. That is really it. Don't OC and temps shouldn't be much of a problem.

You also need to make sure the case fits full ATX power supplies... that should also not be much of a problem. They are pretty standard.

Yep, not worried about the PSU's, and I figured as much between ATX and then moving up into the full towers/server cases.

Alrgiht, I'll probably just get the full atx one. Thanks.
