Ok, WTF, is NewEgg ripping people off or what?

Newegg is definitely not as good as they used to be.

ZZF is much better IMO.

Only good think newegg has is a very good interface.

Ditto.

A few weeks ago, ZZF had the 3500+ Whinchester $80 cheaper than Newegg. Newegg likes to gouge hot items, and I dont shop them any more. The only thing I use them for anymore, is to check out an item, and look at the pics.

NewEgg does have an interesting an interface. I really don't understand why these other companies (especially ZZF) can't figure out how important that is.

I think it's all the RMA's finally driving thier prices up ...

An informed consumer saves money.

I have done this before also, but if the price difference isn't too big, I will still go with newegg for two reasons:

1) It costs money for newegg to provide such detailed images of their products, and I want to support that.

2) Shpping. Newegg is consistently the absolute fastest shipper around, and they still offer free FedEx on a lot of their items. I recently price shopped and got some parts for a camera on Amazon (the shipping was free). I also ordered a media stick from newegg the same day, which arrived in two days and beat the Amazon order by a week. I only saved like $10 by going with Amazon, so I have begun to consider the arrival time when I shop as well.

By biggest beef with Newegg's shipping policy is that if I order a $400 cpu with free shipping and two case fans with $4 shipping each, I end up paying $8 to ship a $412 order. They really should hook you up with free shipping in these cases.

As far as the original topic goes... both zip and newegg are overpriced IMO.

ZZF has a smaller X800 XL selection at higher prices than NewEgg last time I checked, so you're bound to find a bit of price disparity on a single item between any retailer. Not a big deal, it takes a few clicks to do the research so if you're too lazy to shop around and end up paying more it's your own fault...

In any case these are high-end, limited supply items so both sites are charging as much as they think they can get for them 🙂

If ZZF would make a Newegg-like search interface, and keep their shipping free, they'd be #1 easy, in my book.

Can anyone identify another vendor that has better prices for video cards? In general, both NewEgg and ZZF seem to have the least unreasonable prices for them whereas other vendors seem to want to ream people on the video card prices.

Haha, check out the reviews on NewEgg, the dude with 2 Xeons, 10GB RAM, 1.2 TB Storage, 2 X850XT PEs and 2 Sound Blaster Audigy 4... He only paid $10,000... 😛

I wonder how he used two x850XT PE's...

I just make sure to price check between NewEgg and ZZF whenever I buy anything. NewEgg usually has the equal or better deal. I prefer NewEgg for several reasons:

1) I like being able to log into my account a review all purchases I've made over the last several years. I've got over $20000 in purchases between home and business.

2) It is SOOO much easier to search for products at NewEgg. It's now frusterating at ZZF.

3) I keep pre-made orders for business in my wishlist. I can instantly pull these up and have them ordered.

4) I like being able to process RMAs online when needed (rarely).

In this case, the price is a rip-off, but nobody has to buy it.

For some reason New-egg has been inflating their prices. I suppose their reputation has stabilized and they are "reaping the benefits" so to speak.

Maybe he's a nut job and is using them to drive 4 monitors on a dual PCI-E 16X motherboard.

More than likely he's fully of it, though.

Gee, I have always gotten what I ordered, for the price I ordered it at, in a timely fashion. Where is the ripping off?

A free market will soon correct those that do not ask a fair price. Price is also dependent on supply and demand. If the supply is low and the demand high and there are people who fit inside the currect SD curve, someone will buy it.

OK, raise your hands... Who did not sleep through Economics class?

😀

I think it has something to do with charging near double the MSRP 😉 .

Raise your hands, those who've heard this recital of first year economics enough times and are sick of it?

If you didn't sleep through the rest of the year, another thing you learn in first year is brand recognition and brand trust. Consumers ally themselves with particular brands that have treated them well in the past (ie Newegg), and sometimes go so far as to ignore other brands altogether (yeah, they'd be dumbasses to pay $800 for an X850 XT but maybe they figure Newegg always has the lowest prices).

Newegg is abusing the reputation they have gotten by no longer being agressive out of the door and bumping up prices on high demand items, which is funny because charging the lowest price on high demand prices is what made Newegg so popular in the first place.

Newegg can skim the market with new prices on high demand items, but for how long?

The price will eventually come down. When it's all said and done and the excitement over the product eventually dies down, Newegg's prices will typically be the best. Just use a combination of ZZF, Newegg, CV, Monarch, SVC, etc. and you'll get what you need at the best price. I've been liking ZZF the most lately. Their free 2-day rocks.

JL1k 😉 That was Marketing... Economics was the class with all of the graphs. 😀

Yes, I did notice that Newegg has figured out how to skim the fanboi market. Other stuff is still very reasonable. Shoot, even the AIW X800 is priced well. DVD recorders and HDDs are still priced well along with lots of other stuff. The margins sure are in the video cards though.

Shipping varies. ZZF almost ALWAYS has free 2day shipping. Newegg almost always charges for shipping. The past two times I have ordered from ZZF, its gotten here one day before the tracking said it would. Thats awesome.
