It's not as though the history of our own nation has not be plagued with violence of all varieties, and despite the political & ideological flaws of the French government their citizens on the whole are just folks like us. Most news sources I have seen seem to indicate that the perpetrators of the rioting are mostly 1st generation French-born citizens not recent immigrants.

One of my friends is a native-French political scientist in Paris and he's telling me that the problem is multifaceted

1) No jobs in these ghettos because regulation is out of control and NOBODY in the private sector wants to invest there
2) Radical muslim clerics are organizing this whole thing- many with al queda ties.

Yes, it is -- that's why I said "perhaps it [France] represents socialism?". However, what goes on in France doesn't affect us nearly as much as domestic policy does.

I wouldn't move to France either if I know I am not welcome there either. But as bad as things are for the immigrants, you know they wouldn't go back to their Africian countries, because France still provide better opportunity and have welfare. no. france has given these immigrants a new opportunity with a welfare state where they are given housing, food, education, etc... These immigrants need to recognize that it is a privilege to be given these , as well as to be allowed freely into the borders, NOT to riot because they havn't achieved a respectable socioeconomic status on their own. I believe everyone is entitled to whatever they themselves earn, not what society can provide for them.
