Ok, why does everyone hate WindowsMe?

Almost everyday now on TechTv people have said bad stuff about WindowsMe. Can anyone explain to me why that is? I happily use WindowsMe. I have been updating it and it has been more stable than Windows98Se. Well for me anyways.

Comparing it to Win98SE is like comparing cat sh!t to dog sh!t, both are equally sh!t. Compare it to a real OS like one in the NT family or Linux, then it really looks like sh!t.

I would just ask you when was your last system crash?

I honestly can't remember when my last one was, over a year I know that for sure. Apps a crashed on me, but I've just killed the app and restarted it and everything runs great from then on.

there are always some people with good experiences. its just that statistically speaking, winme is awful. for some people it works, and they might as well stick with it

I concur with CTho..I myself have had ME run great on some machines and downright miserable on others. On the grand scheme of things, ME was buggier on the whole than Win98SE. If I couldn't get someone I was building a machine for to go with an NT-based OS, I would go for Win98SE over ME anyday.

ME was just a stop gap between SE and XP Home and was quirky as hell.
A friend of mine bought a new Compaq loaded with ME and used it for 3 months.
After the 10th BSOD he flushed the drive and installed SE. Hasn't looked back.
ME was a mistake, although one MS won't have to pay for.

I have seen this version of Win run on some systems great, but most not so great at all. A little name I like to use for it is "Windows Many Errors". There are so many MS can't even keep up with it. It was more of a way to get people to buy a new version right before XP came out. The main problem I saw was a HUGE memory leak that even being fully updated never helped. I don't think MS will try using the 95 kernel in their future versions ever again.

If you use your computer to check E-mail, surf the Internet, play an occasional game and turn your computer off every night, if not a few times a day, WinMe is fine. If you're a power user who demands large tasks to be done and dependent on system stability, WinMe is suck. It's not on the NT kernal, so it blows.

Get a job in tech support and you will find out very fast why people HATE Windows ME.

EDIT:I've yet to hear a customer call in and say they hate Windows 98, NT, W2K or XP(ok, maybe sometimes XP 😛 ) However 95% of people that are using Windows ME that I hear from hate Windows ME and I concur cause I have to resist the temptation to demand they go buy a OS that doesn't suck before I will help them 😀 .

ah screw all of that, linux!

Hehe anyway Oh god i have nightmares of ME. Jeeze it would bootup, and within 2 minutes of boot.. DEATH. Play a sound file, death! Run a program, BSOD DEATH! Oh man that was fun.

I wish I could say whether I like ME or not, but I never really got to use it. I tried to get it running on two separate machines with no luck. On the first one, it wouldn't even finish installing and on the second one, it crashed so many times in the first hour of use that I had to wipe it and go back to 98SE.

Couple of things I dis-like about WinME over Win98SE.

1) Doesn't support 5.1 drivers for my SBLive 5.1 (The sound difference is day and night).
2) System Restore feature is not that great, but you can disable it.
3) WinME seems a little more critical when it comes to older hardware. The OS just would not install on old SCSI2 drives without buggy errors like scandisk or defrag just wouldn't work.

Other than that, yes it may be a bit more stable than Win98 depending on what you install onto it, but what can you expect for a everyday consumer/home user based OS?

Win98SE = Best gaming OS EVAR!
Reason why I don't buy Consoles = Win98SE.

I used this OS since it came out till a few months ago with virtually no problems. For me, Win98 was a much bigger headache. Most people who complain to me that WIndows doesn't work right have systems that are so screwed up they're beyond redemption, loaded with crap, buggy junk hardware, tons of half-uninstalled software, etc. etc. You can't make a blanket statement that its all that bad. I think that the buggiest piece of crap ever released was RedHat 7.0, but thats just my opinion. Total waste of money, since I got no use out of it.
