Dammit, this pisses me off. I get home this evening, & check my e-mail. I haven't checked my e-mail in almost 48 hours at this address, so I figure I'll have 5 or 6 messages. No, I've got 56! Check out what my inbox looked like:

I don't use this e-mail address for much, especially things that are likely to send me spam. Can anybody glean any info from the header? I don't see anything in there of value. I figure it was probably someone from this forum, since this is the only place it's publicly visible.

If anybody can help, I'd appreciate it. I want to make damned sure this never happens again.

The headers only contain information regarding the list server which sent you the email. They don't give any indication of what source signed you up for any of the lists, since it's only an email from the server, not that person.

You might be able to contact the admin of the list server and see if they'll check their logs, but since they're probably a spam company (SendOutMail.com) they're not likely to do anything.

Hopefully they'll actually honor the mention that they'll remove you if you don't reply. If they don't, then you can contact the postmaster at the site and inform them that you did not make the requests and you wish to be completely removed from those lists and any lists to whom they may have sold or given your email address. Advise them that if they do not remove you and confirm that they have done so, you will contact their ISP or web host and have their service terminated (most ISP's and web hosts severely frown on SPAM).

That sucks, but at least he picked a service that requires you to send a confirmation email. Do what I do, and don't show your main address here. I would assume that you get some sort of discount from the ISP you work for, why not set up another address just for places like this? I've got one that dumps the messages into the same inbox in Outlook Express. If I ever start to get spam or other unwanted email, I'll just change the address.

Actually, if I had to pick someone Lozer would be my guess as to the culprit.

I guess what I could do is create a subaccount to this & use that for my public address. That way if I get sh!t like this again I can simply remove that subaccount & create another.

Thanks for the advice,

Viper GTS

That's exactly why I don't show my e-mail address in my profile since the Mods quit accepting free mail addresses. I get enough crap coming through as it is.

Wow, that sucks... Thanks for the heads up. Sorry you had to deal with that. I'm new here, and while I'm not afraid of people with differing opinions, I do dislike rudeness. That was just plain rude.

I make a point of bouncing back 400 return copies of the exact spam that I received. But that ain't me.

I am really sorry to see this happened.

Because of this, I removed my e-mail address from my profile. If somebody needs to contact me they can use private messaging.

LOL @ IronMike!

Viper-that really sucks dude. Thanks for sharing. I just got rid of mine, even tho I rarely use that one.

On a side note-To be honest with you I've seen you piss off a few people lately. I couldn't name them specifically, but I've noticed it in passing. Who knows, could be anyone I guess.

I just thought I'd share that with you.

Good luck in finding the culprit.

Damn....that's annoying. Well, at least you can just delete 'em all since it needs your confirmation. If it didn't, you'd be stuck unsubscribing from each one, one at a time. All lists I know send out confirm emails so that's not a problem. Unfortunately, if this guy has your email, chances are he could try something dirtier, like send out a few mass emails..

I had some of that crap too. Just some, because I didn't flame him(Lozer) as much as Viper did.
HHHHMMMM, maybe he's a scaling Lozer. ;)

Viper didn't say that Lozer did it.

Viper
These didn't say anything about when/where you (supposedly) signed up?
Shouldn't you be able to get that information from the server?? Don't they record IP addresses or some rubbish like that?
