OK, I just ran memtest last night and found out that another set of ballistix fails at stock settings. I had 4x1gb of this stuff (2 old and 2 new) and one of each pair has now failed on me. I am looking to buy 4 gb and am not sure what the best value will be. I need them to run 450-475mhz and I will OC them if needed.

I am torn between 2x2gb or 4x1gb. I have heard people say that, although 4 stick stresses the NB, you will actually get better performance. At the same time, I would like to have some upgrade room in the future. So far, I have been looking at these:

Now, I may be asking for trouble with the Crucial, but they have been great for many months and seem to OC nicely. What do you suggest I buy?

I won't comment on brand as that is up to you. In this case, I would definitely go for a solid 2 x 2gb kit from whatever company you like buying from.

any benefit from a 4x1gb setup would be imperceptible. But it would drain more juice from your psu and put more stress on your mobo, and leave no room for upgrading.
2x2gb is a no-bainer.

because you don't have untied OC-ing wrt the FSB?

Consider this:

ADATA
DDRII-800
Lifetime Warrenty
1.8v stock (lots of room for OC-ing)

PS unless you have a 64bit OS you will never see 4GB of RAM,--3.2gb max.

For around $100, that G.Skill DDR2-1000 is the best value IMO...though you might want to jump fast; the price seems to jump up & down all the time.

Other good sub $100 kits would be:

Once you go over $100, there's lots of good DDR2-800 or higher kits that will reach at least 500 MHz.
