OK, what is this video game?

I can't remember the name, it's maybe 6~7 years old. Vertical scrolling shooter, choice of two ships. They both lock on to enemies, and then you shoot either green lasers or a purple lightning bolt or something. Crazy difficulty in some parts, real fast action. I played it in the arcade, and I know it was ported to Playstation 1. Anyone remember what this is?

Raiden is awesome, but I don't think that's it. In the game I'm thinking of, your ship has a little lock-on target constantly in front of it as you fly around, and when you've locked on to one or more targets, there is a separate button to press (different from the regular fire button) to release lasers/lightning bolt.

Sounds like a lot of recent games (Ikaruga re the "releasing shots", 19XX with the "lock-on" bit ...)

Yups, it was RayStorm alright. Good game, but a bit short though. If you guys like those lock-on lasers, there's a new game for PS2 (anime robot) which is just AWESOME!! Forgot the name, but they just previewed it on Extended Play.

Nub. He's talking about hardcore, old-skool Silpheed.
I had it for IIGS and the PC port later on.

I'd never heard of the game before that, as for nub........far from it, try old skool atari 2600, amstrad etc.
