Actually, one did a couple of hundred years ago. Another could happen any time.

One more way to wipe us out:

10. killer asteroids, comets and meteor showers
9. microscopic black hole
8. gamma ray burst from supernova
7. rogue planet or star
6. global warming
5. viral plague, bioweapons
4. accidental or intentional nuclear launch
3. killer earthquake
2. zombie apocalypse

1. tsunami!

Sleep well.
Thanks, I'm sleeping OK. I just saw a story on TV that scientists now rule out the possibility of a direct impact from a large asteroid in the year 2029. Current calculations have it missing us.

Of the ones mentioned above, one of the intriguing ones is the gamma ray burst. I suppose it's possible if a near star goes supernova that we'd be fried, or at least all life would be annihilated by the gamma rays.

Of course, you can add to that list the inevitable one if none of the others get us first: The death of the Sun. I forget whether we'll fry or freeze, but it IS one or the other in a few billion years, I guess.

The death of the sun will fry us. As it gets older the sun it's self will cool down, but what happens is that it expands. According the the BBC documentary:Space it will expand and engulf all the planets out to Mars. Then it will shrink down and eventually die and become a dead rock of iron.
