I think Mills point is that "people" in general do not think being a prostitute is a respected profession. And I think most people would agree that being a janitor and garbagement ius also not respected. I'm not saying they aren't myself as people have to clean the streets, but 'a lot' of people would look down on the garbagemen though. Besides that some garbagemen make good money

People that look down on garbagement are elitist assholes. Their tune would quickly change after that reeking pile of trash in their yard was never collected. After their home was invaded by rats and flies, I think their attitude would change quickly.
The same goes for prostitution. There are people who want or need a profession to exist, and it's not until you need it that you appreciate those people doing it. If it wasn't a desired service, people wouldn't do it. Despite Nik's infantile rants against "street walkers", they're only doing it because their customers want them to.
My wife is a stripper.* She has a regular customer who comes into the club weekly and spends hundreds upon hundreds of dollars. Not unlike what a guy might spend on a prostitute. He's also married. The reason he goes to the club is because his wife is an invalid. She has medical problems which prevent the two of them from having sex. He goes to the club (and possibly prostitutes) to fulfull his sexual nature. He does this with his wife's blessings. So unlike assholes like Nik, who would doom his future wife to a life without sex if for some reason he were unable to fulfill her, she understands that sex workers have their place.
*A clean stripper, no extras, so here's a pre-emptive "fsck you" to the people were thinking of saying she's screwing the guy in the champagne room.
