It can, though it's not an issue if you don't POKE the things.

Speaking as an anal retentive, though, you should never touch monitor screens. Your finger will leave oils on the screen. Point at things by putting your finger about a millimeter away from the part of the screen you're pointing at.

It shouldn't as long as you are gentle enough. But it'll leave oils on there, and LCDs are kind of a pain to clean properly.

That's the biggest problem.. They suck to clean.

Grrrr! Pokin' a finger at my monitor is a good way to lose an arm!

Why don't people use the mouse cursor for pointing (on a system with a GUI, anyway)?

when youre next to someone who is using the computer (hands on mouse) and want to show them something.

how do you lose an arm?

Exactly! I notify people who sit or stand near my workstation that the area between me and my monitors is a "no fly zone". If they want to show me something on the screen they can make use of verbal communication to describe what they're talking about, or they can ask to borrow the mouse. That way, nobody has to get hurt.
