As has been implied this kind of fuckery exists in every single organization that's bigger than 100+ people. The only way to escape it is to work in a really really small companies and that's not always realistic for a lot of positions.

I'll respectfully disagree based on my personal experience working for some of the largest tech companies in the world. I think it depends more on the line of work and what you do for said company than anything. That said, even if a company has 100+ people, that doesn't mean your specific area has that many, or needs to.

In the end it's probably not wise to make general assumptions as I did. The sentiment is that you should probably avoid putting yourself in those situations. If you can get a job at a huge company, you can likely find a smaller one that will pay you similarly and will be without all the corporate culture. YMMV.

Depends on how high the ladder you want to go, but it's absolutely possible to find a job that doesn't require backstabbing to get to a comfortable position.

Unless you're talking about elite-level ladder climbing, involving high six figure positions, CEOs, executive management, U.S. Senator, etc. you can succeed without being a douche. And at that point, you really need to ask yourself if it's worth it to climb higher.

Hate to say it, but I agree.

I won't say it requires "backstabbing", but your typical work will not be what gets you far.

It's kissing the right asses, taking credit for the correct things, writing enough bullshit on your yearly evaluations, finding the right exploits, etc.. etc... Part of it is simply finding opportunities.

By all means, you can make it up to manager on work alone when working at Pizza Hut, but that's not going to get you a white collar high rank position.
