Looks sweet, too bad the OS blows goats.

Now if only Toshiba would make something like that... Like maybe a 1 Gig P3/512 MB/GF2 Go chipset... Then I'd be half tempted to sell my soul for it.

There are a lot of sleek looking PC Laptops out there...but most of them are imports. The only ones I can think of that are available in the US are the really thin Sonys and the Toshibas. But if you search for imported laptops, there are really good looking ones. I don't understand why they do not manufacture and sell them in the US though. But I think there is an overall perception (and perhaps reality) that most Americans don't really care about looks and refinement, but are more interested in speed and power...(ie. American Cars). This trend doesn't stop at laptops either. A lot of items that are made exclusively overseas are a lot more refined and asthetically pleasing than domestic products, especially electronics (stereos...tvs...etc). If you've ever been to an asian country, and walk into electronic store, you'll know what I mean.

No other laptop has slot load dvd nor widescreen though.

Yes, their screen is a wider aspect ratio than most laptop screens. But 1152x768 is a 3:2 ratio, where true widescreen is 16:9.

Slightly deceptive advertising if you ask me.

You'd lose that bet. They'd be a fool to claim 99.5% purity on the case if it really wasn't, that's very easily disproven.

I'm with you on that one. I'd probably get rid of my desktop for something like that...hell, my desktop is hardly worth 1/6 of what that would probably cost. Toshiba laptops rule, too! :)

This guy I know just got one, mainly to play DVD's. He's a CS student no less! I'll check it out, hopefully it has OSX on it.

Maybe they can't call it widescreen because it isn't 16x9. So, instead they call it Mega-widescreen, LOL!

Ya, some Mac "features" are just utterly rediculous...like having a one-button mouse. Who was the genius that thought of that! I need my two buttons w/ scroll damnit. Everytime I use my school's G3s...I get totally annoyed of not being able to right click to do stuff. Don't tell me they thought that having a second mouse button would be too complicated for mac users!

ENTER: Sony Vaio notebooks. Great (read: useful) features, not-too-bad price (especially compared to the amazing titanium wonder), great specs, and a few pounds lighter than said amazing titanium wonder. :D Har har, bite me Jobs. :p

I was talking mass ratio. If you weighted the whole ibook, then took out all the titanium and weighted that, what do you think the percentage will be?

You guys don't seem to know much about macs. you need to have a more open mind and then maybe you will see that they are great machines. don't just bash when you don't know.

ummm, first, you are the idiot:p. second, it's not an ibook. the ibook is something else. this is the replacement to the G3 powerbook. third, the whole case is made of titanium but you are right, it's not a large part in terms of the total weight of the unit because the case is so light. the frame is made of carbon fiber. Oh and why are you making fun of titanium? it is used because it is super strong and super light. why else would they make airplanes out of it? Should they make airplanes from beige or black plastic?

the things that I don't like about it is that the base hard drive is only 10gigs (expandable to 30gigs, but that costs bank!) and that they are expensive. I think I might get one anyways. The ones that are out now are the first release. They will soon get a megahertz bumb, but it is not doing bad now. When OSX comes out on march 24th it is going to rip!:D

you guys want a two button mouse on a portable computer? I'll pass. anyways, the thing that you guys gon't like about macs is that it does not come with a multiple button mouse? that is not a very strong complaint. I agree, it sucks but i replace my mouse anyways. I love microsoft's explorer mouse. what other horrible things about the mac do you want to bicker about? it doesn't have a disk drive? OH NO! what are we going to do? it all comes down the the operating system, speed and cost. At present time i HATE windows and don't want to bother with linux.

if you are coping links or save pictures from internet.. with mac all you need is just hold down the button and the options will pop up letting you choose what you want to do with the link.. just like the second mouse button.. which one is easier?? click on 2nd button or just just hold the button?

You guys don't seem to know much about macs. you need to have a more open mind and then maybe you will see that they are great machines. don't just bash when you don't know.

I totall agree with LaBang I never used mac until last year when I started to work at an elementary school.. one thing I can tell you is that for education K-6 maybe even 8th grade they are soo easy to manage and configure. Don't have to spend time on configuration and trouble shooting. Therefore you spend more time on educating the kids instead of trouble shooting computers. Also they are so colorful makes learning more fun.

I mean don't get me wrong.. I am still a PC person mainly the availablitity of softwares ;) but I wouldn't mind having a Mac :)
BTW It took me like ONE hours to learn Mac and how to setup network and setups.

I have an open enough mind, I am just really tired of Apple's mindless propaganda targetted at idiots who can't think for themselves.

"the operating system, speed and cost"
ok, so lets discuss those if you wish. We'll start with the OS. For get future releases and such and lets talk about today. the only thing you can get on the Mac is OS9. It is an old buggy pile of sh't. It is exremely unreliable and crashes all the time. It supports an extremel small number of hardware and software. It is also dumbed down enough so any slack jawed yokel can use it. Will I ever insult myself and use it? HELL NO! Perhaps Windows may not be as easy to use, but it makes to difference to me seeing as how I know windows practically inside out. From your statement about linux I can tell that you've never even tried to use it. Windows 2000 is one of the best Operatin systems out there. It is exremely stable, it goes months without needing reboot even under heavy load. It supports Preemptive Multitaksking, SMP, protected memory, thousands of drivers etc etc etc. Sure, you can keep on whining about OSX being the second comming, but Win2k has been around for more than a year and before that NT4 (while not nearly as good) still offered features the mac STILL doesnt have. And while talking on the subject of OSX, it seems its real introduction will be this summer, since the march 24th release will have bugs and will not be able even play DVDs. How sad is that? as least win2k worked when it was released!
nuff said about that

next up, speed. What can I say. It was two months ago that apple FINALLY got PC133 ram! Its been on the PC since october '99!!! The chip itself, maybe be better clock for clock, but when you consider that you can get a 1.2GHz Athlon for the same price, it looses whatever little appeal it have. And what about video cards? Until a month ago could only get a pathetic rage16mb!!! Are you gonna get 2fps in quake3 with that?
Lets not forget the fact that DDR is already cheap enough (128mb crucial for $60) to be considered when buying a system. read the reviews, it can give enourmous gains in memory hungry apps. If you want DDR on the mac, well I guess summer '02 will be a good time to buy it.

And finally cost. If have been under a rock for the last 2 years, i can tell you the price/performance wise nothing can beat the PC. nothing!

You've also left out a lot of other important categories. How about flexibility? When you want a PC you can choose from thousands of manufacturers and you can build your own. Mac, you can only get what apple offers and their build to order system is SO limited it might as well not exist.

so if you wanna look up to Jobs and believe every photoshop benchie he throws at you, then go ahead and do that. Just dont come into a forum made up of knowledable users and try to tell them the mac rules. And don't even mention arguments like "it looks cool with that cheap plastic on".
as valhalla said:
"apple knows how to wrap a sexy skin over a load of dogsh!t"
They also know how to market it to idiots too.

Pyro - So much written, so little said.

FYI, the best quality DVD I've ever seen, including progressive scan DVD players and HDTVs, was on a PowerMac G4 with a 21 inch Radius monitor. The Titanium Powerbook will likely rock equally.

I never said "macs rule" don't put words in my mouth.
why do you feel like you have to be hostile? sarcasm is ok but anger gets you no where. i don't even feel like responding to the rest.
