Hmm... The page that link takes me too has a search button and Forum Categories listed on the left. That leaves a ton of white space to the left of the threads. But no ads.

Ah, but those aren't the actual threads. Those are just "headline" type posts, teasers. The actual discussion forums are a separate area with no space wasted. 🙂

Of course, I still don't understand why wasted space on one part of a website doesn't make it useless, but wasted space on another part does.

No, never. Pop-ups are much worse than an ad on the left-hand side of your window.

I spend the majority of my time on AT. so much that I've subscribed. Granted, I can block any ad that a website can code into their page. But I got tired of blocking adservers' ip's, scripts, etc..

If the stuff bother's people that much just pay for the subscription. Subscriber's don't see squat, except the content🙂

Rumors that the AT Deals posts are actually advertisements are lies created by the western infidels. There are no advertisements on AnandTech, even if you are not a subscriber. AnandTech will forever be free of advertisements and neffing.

Exactly. Why would an ad only count if it is not a thread? An ad is an ad is an ad. And they are not "occasional". There is ALWAYS at least one in HD and usually one or 2 in GH. If AT gets paid to put them there they are ads pure and simple.

And the explanation given on the google ads was either wrong or an outright lie. The explanation given was there is no credit given for ads that you have to scroll to see. Well, AT was designed for a 1024 x 768 screen resolution right? Well at 1024x768 I only see the top 2 ads so AT is not getting paid for the bottom 2. Why do we have all 4 if we are only getting paid for 2?

The ad's font did change for those that care.

HAHAHA. I just saw what ads are showing. Two are for Stopzilla to kill popups, one is for AOL for Broadband (AOL IPs are banned here) and the last is for a popup advertiser.

I have to say putting one more ad at the bottom for AT's own price check doesn't look good. For one thing the ad is ugly and so is the logo, but it also is gratuitous in a sickening way.

But should they? It's more likely some proprietary or non-standard coding that's throwing things off, but since Mozilla doesn't have at least a 51% majority yet, "they" probably won't bother with it.
