This would be used with my existing:

evga 6800GT 256mb PCI Video card
Enermax Noisetaker 420 Watt ATX 12V Power Supply
Creative 52x CD Rom
Aopen CDRW/DVD Rom

any thoughts or suggestions on this one, and or alternatives would be appreciated...system will mainly be for BF2, thanks

3500+ venice not worth it...either downgrade to 3000+/3200+ and OC, or get a 3700+ San Diego...shud cost only a little bit more. Everything else looks good.

just out of curiosity, what is your current system?

since it seems to be atleast somewhat newer with the gpu and p/s, you will not gain anytihng by going to sata unless you just want the smaller cables, ~$90 for 80GB seems high

dfi is pretty ram finicky, i would make sure it is ok with the ocz guys on the forum here because i have real a lot of issues with dfi boards and ram, but the dfi boards will o/c like a raped ape with the correct ram

go 3000venice or 3700diego

thermalright xp90

Current system is an Athlon XP 2400 on an ECS K7S5a which is going south (always drop the primary IDE controller whenever hardware is changed forcing a bios reset to correct), Radeon 9600SE, 1 gb crucial PC2700 DDR value memory, 40gb IDE and 20gb IDE western digital hard drives, Soundblaster live XGamer, Intel Pro 100, Aopen CDRW/DVD and Creative 52x cd rom.

I need a hard drive upgrade anyway and figured SATA would be the way to go...the two components I listed as being carried over were a work goof up that I got for free...they are not in my current system.

I checked on the mainboard forum and that was the memory recommended, however all the reports of the DFI board being finicky get me a bit antsy as I would like something easy and stable...

I am mainly looking at the 3500 due to price, but I will check the 3000 venice as well, thanks

i would probably go with an msi, they seem to have good features and are not as ram picky. here is a better deal on a 80GB sataII hdd - $60 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145082, don't worry sataII is backward compatible with sataI if the m/b you buy doesn't have sataII, and from what i have read, these drives fly

nice for your work to make an error in your favor 🙂

I wanted that drive but it was outa stock when.I was ready to buy my pc so ended up getting a seagate 🙂 🙁 which one?

if you already have the other, i would keep it, but since this is a new build, i would get the hitachi and not the wd

Hey Bob,

I was thinking about the MSI however have read more than a few issues regarding "flakyness" and the board? however it seems like it would be easier to pair with memory whereas the DFI I hve heard is ram finicky...

I will look at that hard drive, have been leery of Hitachi due to a string of bad drives we got at work but I would assume they got better.

Also what about the Epox 9NPA+ Ultra, read the Ultra roundup and seems as if it is also a good pick at a slightly better price?? gotta admit though I kinda like the looks of the DFI board even though looks add nothing to performance.

i have no qualms with dfi, but would definately contact them and give them an exact part # for the ram you want to verify they have tested it. dfi is the way to go for the most extreme o/c as their boards will support 4V ram voltage.

like i said, i would do the msi now because they seem a little more forgiving in the ram dept (on these current boards only, i tried to use a msi nf2 board a couple of years ago and had nothing but problems and it went back 4xs, then i went to a dfi lanparty and it worked flawlessly)

epox is another good brand from what i have read, but i have never used one so i can't speak from firsthand experience. i think it may be easier to toss a coin and let that decide (seriously) as these boards are all good, some have quirks in different spots.

i do know firsthand that msi has a good rma policy...as well as ocz, mushkin, hitachi which is also important. yamaha's rma sucks big time :thumbsdown🙁would never buy another yamaha product because of their extremely strict rma policy)
