Ok, stupid question time (SSD)

How do I connect my new SSD drive? The connectors on the drive don't seem to fit those on the laptop (see pic).



I have 2 hard drive bays, and it does connect to the first one, but that's where my main hard drive sits. I need the SSD in this 2nd bay.

the laptop doesn't have an adapter does it? the one in the other bay may be staying on those pins when you remove the other hard drive.

You have an HP. Your old 2.5" Laptop SATA HDD has an adapter that's currently attached to it. It looks like this:

If you are missing it / it is lost, you need to buy this. It does not matter whether its a spinning HDD or an SSD, they both use the same interface.

Check your old drive. It's just a 90 deg push on adapter of sorts.

Taking bets on how long before you replace the other drive with a SSD once you get this one working 😉

I believe the technical term is simply 'mash it in there'...

The 's' in 'smash' is is superfluous in this particular example and will possibly lead to the OP having unnecessary installation issues.

It is these small nuances in procedures and sequences that can make a huge difference in a successful new install.

hmm, looks like it, might want to check with Alienware support first though. Also, make sure you enable AHCI before reinstalling windows 😀

AHCI mode is enabled in the BIOS setup, and can improve performance on SSD's.

Lmao, I found a spare adapter in the box. Now to reinstall everything again. Sigh.
