Didn't you just post this last night? ;)

Here is my reply/suggestion from your first thread:

I'd get the x800GTO² now and hold off upgrading until M2, Vista and DX10 (formally WGF2.0) Damn good card for a sweet price. Who knows how long this card will be available.

If you pass on the GTO² now and spend $500 instead, you will almost certainly feel the upgrade bug again when Vista/DX10 comes out.

This is the rig ill be purchasing within this/next week:
x2 3800+
ultra d dfi mobo
2 gigs of ram
80 gig raptor + 2X250gb hitachi T7K250
everything will be OCed etc etc

What to do now... I could :
1. get the 800gto2 ($200) and unlock it... then sell it and buy a new card in a year
2. get a 7800GT ($330ish) overclock it to GTX speeds and buy a new card in about 1.5-2 years
3. get one of the new ati cards (then id have to wait another couple weeks on my rig i guess) for like ($500ish) and not upgrade for a minimum of 2 years

any suggestions?

thanks

ugh i wish this was more clear cut :(

edit: 7800GTX is also an option if it's worth the money?

wow....so naive (or worse)

1. "get one of the new ATI carts" ??? you must mean the X1800XT, not the X1800XL which doesn't even compare favorably to 7800GT, can't be overclocked (because of hardware bug), and costs more.

2. "wait another couple of weeks" ??? really, you are hopelessly optimistic. ati said availability will be in a month (that 4.5 weeks) and that's probably means it will hardly be available in large quantity before x-mas.

3. "for like $500" - MSRP is $550 but due to projected low availalbity it wll sell for WAY above MSRP for at least a few months.

So you should change your statement to
"maybe I should get the X1800XT but I'll have to wait until x-mas and pay over $600 for it" . Smart. Really smart

Ok... first of all... don't respond to threads if you're gonna be an a$$hole... second of all by a couple weeks i meant the XL... which might overclock quite well with the new chipset... i'm sure the bug will be fixed.

btw.... notice how you didn't answer the question at all.... i really don't want your input. thanks anyway

Xls and XTs are 2 different cores. XLs have a bad core which can't be overclocked high, while XTs supposedly can be clocked past 700. Best choice is still GTO^2 as that will last you till DX10

if you have the money, 7800gtx. wanna save money, 7800gt.

its all really up to what you want to do with your rig, resolution you want to play at. my x800xt is fine at 1024x768 but im using a 15" CRT monitor . i will be getting a 19" or bigger LCD soon and im pretty sure my card can handle those high resolutions with the eye candy cranked all the way up. if not, i have my eyes set on a 7800gt but to me, going from a x800xt to 7800gt is it really worth it?

Monitor plays a large part in deciding which card to get.

Now since you have a huge one, i'd get a 7800GT minimum. GTX if you have the extra cash.

Ok, i just woke up from my afternoon nap =P ... thanks for all the input... yes i am sure i want to OC it.... OCing rarely "breaks" anything :) ... i don't mind if my proc dies in 5 years.... i don't plan to use it for that long anyway.

As for the GTO2 .... I'm already spending like 1600 without the vid card on my comp, so i want to be able to play games at pretty high settings with it. Do you guys think the GTO2 will limit me a lot? Around when do you think the DX10 cards will come? 6 months? 1 yr? 2 yrs? I haven't researched that yet.

Basically i'm asking.... will i be able to turn on AA and all the other fancy shmancy stuff and put the res to at least 1280X1024 and still have playable framerates (above 35) in pretty much every game within the next (insert answer to the timing of the DX10 cards).

edit: i also noticed that the new NV drivers utilize a second processor, so if ATI won't do this i think I will go with the GT for sure as opposed to the GTO2
the GTO2 is crappy unless flashed to an xtpe [and i believe ALL of them will]

if your only playing at 12x10 . . . the xtpe [flashed GTO2] is plenty

ati is planning drivers to utilize the 2nd proc . . . also

the best thing about the GTO2 is that after you flash it, it will hold its $200 value for probably at least 6 months . . . during which time you will get a "real deal" on the highest-end card. ;)

Bah, that's a story in itself.

The 213T got great reviews, & i assumed the 204T would be even better, since it had better contrast & response time.

Beatiful design, & great picture.
But there's one thing that really bugs me during games.
This thread explains the issue.
It bascially feels like it's lagging slightly when moving quickly, & it's not ghosting either.
Aside from the somewhat lacking gaming experiences i've had with it, i love it.
Just that one issue is something i dislike.

ok...if you want shader model 3...7800gt without a doubt...the gto2 might also be a good choice considering you'll be upgrading in a year...

hmm i dunno, personally, i'd say 7800gt and upgrade later.

maybe you didn't read my first point: X1800XL is slower and more expensive then a 7800GT, and can't be overclocked either( while a 7800GT sure can). It's gonna be a long long wait for X1800XL to go below $350, so that card is completely out (read the reviews again if you didn't get that point the first time).

X1800XT is a bad choice dure to lack of availability and high price.

So best choices are 7800GT or X800GTO2. I also think an overclocked 7800GTX is good but it's still $150 more then a 7800GT.
