Ok, so I finally caved and told my Mom I would travel with her somewhere

I finally relented and now we just need to figure out the particulars of where to go. For some reason my Mom really wants to go on a trip with me somewhere, which is fine, but we have very different personalities, so things that interest me do not not necessarily interest her and vice versa which is why I said no for so long. But hey, she's my Mom, so I figured if that's what she wants, it's not that big a deal to me.

Anyway, here are the particulars:

  • Travelling probably fall/winter
  • Duration of about a week
  • Distance is not an issue, but would prefer no flights longer than 8 hours (from Vancouver, BC)
  • I'm 31 and she is 50 something, so no places with lots of kids (i.e. no Disneyland or anything)
  • A place with some decent restaurants around would be nice

Looking for suggestions please and feel free to make as many stupid comments as you like! :)

Thanks in advance!

That was one of the first places I thought of, but I have been there a couple of time sin the past year already as thinking of trying someplace new.

That's along the vein of what I was thinking though.

Thanks,

It is. Took me about 16 hours to get there when I went last Summer. I will definitely be going back there, but I don't think I want to go with my Mom.

Good suggestion though.

Lol, yeah right. You just made me think of that Family Guy episode where Lois takes Meg on Spring Break and Lois turns into a raging party animal! :D

Machu Picchu, Peru. By going to Peru you are guaranteed to have a good time and good food. Machu Picchu is beautiful and Cuzco has a great night life and good food.

Nice, it is officially on the list! Would one week be enough time though?

What isn't there to do in Chicago? Depending on when you visit, there will be city festivals, Navy Pier, Millenium Park, Magnificent Mile shopping / site seeing, State St. window shopping for winter, the list goes on and on. Tons of good food to be had, shows to see. If you can give me a better idea of when you'd be visiting I could give you more suggestions. In the meantime, here's what's going on for the rest of summer / fall.

Yes it would, you just have to plan it carefully. I 'd to say 4 days in Cuzco (including Machu Picchu) is enough. The rest you can spend it in Lima, getting to eat good and go to the beaches.

Nope, that will never happen. I do have relatives in grandview, MO though. I should go pay them another visit! It's nice country out there!

I don't think I would like a cruise. It just never appealed to me. Interesting idea though!

Good stuff, time to do a little more research.
