You have to enable APM (Advanced power managment). Look around in the control panel or device manager, or something.

Hope this helps,
Menel.

If you go to your display properties---screensaver--power saving options--somewhere around here.. You should see "Enable APM support"

Changing to a Standard PC in control panel will give you the ?It is now safe to turn-off your computer? and the PC won't shut down automatically anymore. So here is how you fix that.

Open up Device manager...
Go to view... show hidden devices.
Open up Non-Plug and Play Devices... Find Microsoft ACPI Driver... DON?T disable or uninstall because that doesn?t work.
Go into Properties... then driver....
there is a pull down menu to tell windows when to start this driver...
Set it Disabled.... and then reboot
Now go back into it.... the driver will still be there and that?s ok... go back into properties and where it says status make sure it says Unavailable.
After that you need to install a new driver... manually by using ?Add/Remove Hardware?.
Go in and add NT APM/Legacy Support...
It will install something called NT APM/Legacy Interface Node....
Reboot and everything should be all good.

BTW you cannot install the NT APM/Legacy if the Microsoft APCI driver is running.

Follow Olias' instructions and you should be good to go.

Those are the directions I used when I did it.

Then you should take the credit for it. Sorry for ripping it without copping who wrote it but I saved it originally for me only. Later, I found others who needed this information and I hadn?t saved a record of who wrote it. So with your permission I will acknowledge that this originated from Dulanic at Anandtech's forums when I circulate it. BTW, I remember the thread was something like "Win2K Tweaks..." and was very long. Is this where you originally posted it? Also, how did you figure this fix out?
