heh lotsa of threads today, but hey i got lotsa questions :p

anyways, you connect the reds and the black of the car you're trying to jumpstart and ground the other black right? start the good car, then start the bad car. what do you do when you've jumpstarted the car? do you have to turn them off before you disconnect the cables?

black to black and red to red, start both cars.

that whole chassis ground thing is because of the 0.0000000000000000000000000000000004% chance of there being a spark big enough to ignite something when you make the final connection

edit: no you don't have to turn them off

if you wanna be mr. safety then that's the way to do it but i've always just hit them up parallel several times with no ill effects.

I've actually gotten sparks doing it the safe way. Blew the fuse in my car's head unit, which I than had to pull apart my entire dash to replace.

Turn off all the radios, lights, air, and other things and put your foot on the gas after you connect everything.

that might've been because the ground you chose was covered in oil or some crap and the connection was intermittent and spiked.

i think most modern cars compensate for lowered voltage by raising the idle.. i've jumped cars from my 91 civic without revving anything, it seems to take care of itself.

LOL, are you sure a jump-start is the only thing the 85 Civic needs?

haha, no it stalls if it hasn't been running for a while, but that is unrelated. i know that it won't run because of the battery because the lights were left on :p

Just be carefull. You can really scramble the "Brains" in newer cars jumping them.

If its a stick, I would just push start it. That way you can get your daily exercize as well!! ;)

I would check the owners manual on the car your jumping it with.

Some say DON'T USE THE CAR TO JUMP OTHER CARS...

And it may also give tips on what do to and what NOT to do when using it to jump..
