Yeah same here I was going to go with the xp-90 by thermalright and it does not fit on the MSI, so I was going to switch over to swiftech. I have read so many reviews the give such high praise to the Neo2 that I was thinking it was the way to go until I stumbled across this site today. Now I am thinking hmmm maybe is Asus is the way to go.

also take a look at the msi forums, both of their nf3 offerings have great potential but their quality control is unacceptable.

Wait, the XP-90 will not fit on the MSI Neo2? Damn... I've got a .90 A64 3200+ with a XP-90. I may just sell these things and get something else later... :disgust:

I just found the damn thing so darn quirky. I was NOT oc'ing and the damn thing would freeze for no apparent reason, or just would not boot or would shut down and restart. When I tried benchmarking w/ 3dmark 2005, it locked up. I tried again and only got 4549 marks. Never had any of these problems w/ asus and 3d mark score was 5100 no oc. I went through 2 of the msi boards. Too damn quirky for me w/ no rhyme or reason to the madness!

this has probably been pointed out before, but the differences amongst mobo's as far as performance goes is mainly drawn along chipset lines. ie. a nf3 will almost always outperform a kt800, regardless of who's mobo it is. and within mobo's using the same chipset, the difference is quite small. ie. a abit nf3 will perform similarly to a asus nf3.

that said, i think the nf3 is probably the best performing chipset now. and amongst the diff nf3 mobo, its up to u to decide which has the features u want ... just my $0.02

If that is so, than can someone explain to me why I had nothing but trouble with nf3 chipset? I did not find it to perform NEARLY as well in benchmarks at all! I don't know, but I tried 2 msi boards and both performed poorly compared to the asus a8v. Can anyone explain this? I'm stunned that people find this to be a better performing chipset. Perhaps it is my setup? But believe me, I tried everything because I desperately wanted an nf3 board.

I Had the GA-K8NS Ultra and nothing but problems with it. Now I have the EP-9NDA3+ and I couldn't be happier. No problems whatsoever...no locks, reboots, etc... I'm using an athlon 64 3500, 1GB ram PC3200, BFG 6800GT OC, and thermaltake PSU. The debug LED is also very nice. On my first boot i didnt get a boot screen so i checked the LED, then the manual, and it said something about monitor mode. I checked my monitor and sure enough the extension had come unplugged. I fixed it and voila, got the boot screen and haven't had any problems since.

THG's benchmarking gives the VIA chipset the clear edge. So I guess it's whoever you want to believe. The biggest difference I see between anand's review and THG is that THG is using better memory. Other than that I don't know

OK I take back what I said about THG using better memory but after going back and reading their review I really dont know which memory they used and on which board. Here is a quote from the article

"It should be noted that the BH5 memory modules we used for testing are no longer available for purchase, but we have not yet established our standard memory for future testing. We will be using a new standard memory in future motherboard tests. " -OK, I would rather you used something I can purchase myself but as long as you are consistent in what memory you use thats cool

"Tests used either Mushkin PC3500 Level II or OCZ PC3500 Platinum Ltd memory modules. Both memories use Winbond BH5 chips and perform virtually the same in our benchmarks. The BH5 memory modules that we used for testing are no longer available for purchase, but we have not yet established our standard memory for future testing. We will be using a new standard memory in future motherboard tests." -Umm sorry, I want to see total consistency when I am comparing any system component. Although either review site could be biased I don't know that, I have to give the THG review more credibiility based on the fact that their test setups are %100 percent consistent. (and yes I am biased because I own the A8V :p)

THG and AnandTech use different methods and get different results - this is totally normal. But reading a few other reviews out there will show the nForce3 is not consistenly faster.

Ok, If you want AGP then go for the Epox Board that is out for S939, if not Nforce4 is only different from Nforce3 which would be PCI-E , but even so the cost of two 6600 is the same of one 6800 GT AGP the only difference in 16x and 8x and in the real world its only a few more fps gains, PCI-E is for high end users who have loads of money.. you'll have to wait till august 2005 before anything becomes affordable to the average person.

So basically see what your budget is and work with that.. best solution if you have money is to wait. if you dont have alot of money then settle for AGP.

sli works nicely on two levels, one if you must have the fastest made it is the only way to go, two, you could buy a single 6800gt now, then another one in the spring or fall of next year and you would still be competitive with the best cards even though your upgrade would have been significantly cheaper. Ie $400 now + $200 then vs $400 now followed by $400 then for the new card.
