Is contacting OCZ out of the question? I've found their support and willingness to RMA to be excellent.

Their forum is what made me want to return it. At this point I can still return it to Tiger direct for a refund. I thought I'd cut my losses after all the OCZ horror stories.

For me, yes. The lowest I see on a daily basis is 3.9GB used, so going over 6GB used happens all the time. For a lot of people no. You can also run dual channel if you want to do 8GB. Overclocking with 12GB is much tougher though, hence why I ended up getting higher-end RAM.

I use 2x 6GB Corsair Dominator GT 1600 C7 kits. It works great in my X58.

Ditto. 7-7-7-20-59-1T 12GB 980X at 211x21. No problems. Don't even use the fans - the memory runs cool. If you want memory hot enough to grill a chicken get Crucial Ballistix Tracers! OMG those run sizzling hot. (and that is NOT a good thing!)

Another +1 for Corsair stuff.

I've tried a bunch of different sticks with zero problems both auto stock timings and Corsair specs with zero issues, zero reboots nor crashes on the x58.

The OCZ forums when I last visited are plagued with people having x58 problems, it's not just limited one timing, seems like a majority of timing specs will fail.

OK. I bought the low end corsair 6gb kit from NewEgg. Installed tonight. The Asrock detected the XMP profile perfectly. Winnah! Testing now.
