OK, now why the heck would someone ship a laptop HDD like this?

NFS4

No Lifer
Bought a 7200RPM Hitachi HDD from eBay and look at how they shipped it (this is right after opening the box):

hitachi_hdd.jpg

Just wrapped up in an anti-static bag and placed directly up against the inside of the box with a bit of peanuts around it (wasn't even filled as the drive was moving around freely in the box).

This mofo had better work :|

when the Hitachi HD division was IBM, I got a broken HD via ebay auction. IBM's warranty and customer service took care of me.

If the seller doesn't work with you, hitachi might just fix it for you.

Id leave the person some bad feedback for not packaging the hd correctly. Then maybe the guy will learn how to ship stuff in the mail.

Well, I installed it and everything is working fine. No bad sectors or HDD errors. Still, that is effed up the way he shipped it.

I sympathize NFS4 🙁
Thankfully, most folk in FS/FT know how to really pack a drive well. The most important thing is that the drive "move with" the box! :|

lol, my favorite was when i got a video card from a young trader.. just came in a cardboard box with no packaging materials. anyways, hes learned over the years and is just fine to trade with these days.

I just bought a 160gig hdd from a person here.

Look how it came

Have not opened it yet for fear of it not working. Don't want to pay shipping charges back to him if it doesn't. Peaked inside and all I can see are packing peanuts which don't fill up the entire box (obvious, or the box wouldn't be crushed like this). If it's just in an anti-static bag I'm going ballistic.

He hasn't responded to my PM yet. Sent it to him a week ago. 🙁

LOL, if I hadn't see that Priority Mail label on the top of that box, I would have thought that box was a victim of UPS.

A lot of my smaller UPS packages from Amazon and Buy.com come shipped to me like that 😀

I received something from Buy.com one time (wasn't very fragile, but can't remember what it was) in a huge box that was about 1/4 filled with peanuts. The product must have been bouncing around like crazy. I was ticked because that's a pathetic way for a company to ship something.

I used to work for UPS and yes boxes get stepped on, crush, thrown, dropped, etc. Ive seen LCD monitors stepped on, dell computers thrown and dropped from tall heights. I was shipping a package the other day and mentioned I used to work for them and they said " so you know what it is about to go through right!!!". I didnt care because it was returning a DOA computer, but WTF! 🙂

I've got about 150 pounds of phone equipment that was badly packed. I still have to go out and take pictures:disgust:
The cabinet has cards in it that you would treat like computer gear, at least try and protect them from static.
It was packed open with peanuts, and there are packing peanuts all through the thing, and giant voids outside. Dents galore in the metal.
I've about had it with ebay🙁

What did you do to the seller of your hdd? Did you just let them know your disappointment or did you actually leave neutral/negative feedback?

I just opened up my box (from the pic) and the box is not full of packing peanuts, which means the hdd has bounced around like crazy.

Still no response from the seller :|

I haven't left him anything yet, and he hasn't left anything for me yet.

hey sometimes you gotta take out packing material to get that $3.85 priority mail rate. (to my fellow traders, that's a lil joke... I'm the masta packa)

Regarding my shipment, I informed the seller of the problems, and he was most apologetic. I guess he really did not know how to pack something that heavy or sensitive. To Comdial's credit, the cards seem to be OK🙂 I will test them out completely though.

Are you in the right forum?

People who don't know how to package items properly should just be rounded up and executed. :|

yeah laptop hard drives have to take a beating... I throw my laptop around (while it's in its case) and it hasn't died yet...

of course, how could it when I've got an ibm laptop that parks the heads whenever there is movement (it's actually more annoying than helpful)

i bought a dfi ultra sli that got shipped only in its own box lol
just put the stickers right on the green box.
of course the pcb corner was busted on it and i had to send it back.
bet he doesnt do that again.

That's been my experience with most of the stuff I've bought on eBay.

I have never been guilty of that.

Yeah, I was hijacking this into a general "ebay retard shippers thread"
My apologies😛
