I just rebooted my win98/linux setup and now it comes up to a linux/dos looking screen with a penguin pic in the left corner and says:

Localhost login:_

Before now it always booted on thru but now stops at this screen.. whats up with this? Any ideas?!

ahh thanks! that worked. Only thing is how can i prevent it from doing this cuz this way i no longer see my duel-boot option to boot into win98 anymore!

edit the "/etc/inittab" file. you'll probably need to change the runlevel to 4 or something depending on which distribution you have. the file gives a description of which runlevels you'd want to use (ie multiuser with x [or something like that])

In the /ete/ folder im not fining anything like "inittab" at all so i now can never boot into my win98 anymore cuz im no longer getting the duel boot menu. Boy this is getting frustrating...

All i wanna do is get linux to boot all the way to the GUI after i select "Linux" from the boot menu. I have no idea how this changed on me.

Anyone else have any ideas how to get the boot menu back?

no dual boot menu?

ok what distribution do you have? usually as root you type 'lilo' and that should write lilo to the mbr and give you your boot menu back.

I guess im really getting confused now!

After i had newly installed mandrake and got the boot menu, it would boot into the GUI and bring up a login box for the USER. Id type in my user name and pass and it would go thru into KDE.

Now all the sudden when booting up past the boot menu it only asks for a ROOT login and i cant figure out how to log back in as a USER?

Is there a way to UNinstall Linux so i can start over??? This is driving me nuts
