Ok, Networking issue

I have a motorola DSL modem which works fine when hooked up straight to one PC.

It uses PPPOE either on the modem or on a lan device. Anyways, neither of my Linksys routers will login with PPPOE so I have it set on the DSL modem.

When I hook up the modem to the router's WAN slot it cant be seen. IP's are in the same range, but it just cant be seen. If I hook the modem up to a regular ethernet port on the router then I can ping it or access it fine from my pc. Any ideas?

Ok, the Modem does have dhcp but only leases out one IP address. I'm gonna try it like that, but we'll see.

If this doesn't work, I'll just put a 2nd NIC into my computer. One incoming and one outgoing to the router.

Yup, IP conflict when I tried that because the modem only has 1 IP to lease. Don't see any option on the Modem to disable DHCP either, and AT&T wants a low $99 to "help" me with my "networking problem".

I just figured it out. What a pain. I tried every possible setting and finally hit the sweet spot.

The problem is that the Modem/Router only had one IP to lease in the 192.168.1.x range so I could connect only one PC to the Linksys router when it was plugged in like a gateway.

But when I changed the Linksys to 192.168.2.x I couldn't get the two to talk. Finally I switched the cable to the WAN port with a 192.168.2.x and bam. Quite a pain, but makes sense.

Hmm.... I wonder, the page that I linked to state clearly.

Example:

- Main Router?s base address is 192.168.1.1, with a DHCP server range of 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150

- Set the Cable/DSL Router to (the one you're using as an Access Point) base address to any IP address between 192.168.1.151 to 192.168.1.250

So were the pain comes from (may be from Not reading advice given)???

My "main router" or dsl modem only has one IP to lease, so the access point or gateway route wouldn't work. I have no way to change it.
