ok my aunt need a new comp and she has come to me to make her one( what do i know??), so i come to u guys for ur help. I am still quite new to computer hardware but have more knowledge then my aunt. So she nned the full monty compu, mointor and printer and she has a budget of 600-800 bucks may be able to extended to 900, anyways doesnt nned state of the art stuff just the average stuuf for her kids to do thier homework on, check email, a little gamming( no hardcore stuff), etc. She wants a 17inch montoir and printer too, again cost effective here just sumthing that;ll do the job, any consideration u guys chan provide on s complete system would be greatly appreciated, thanx in advance

Cant stress that point enough! Plus the fact that she's your aunt (no mean intentions here), thats like 24 hour customer service!

Maybe a good thing though because he is still learning about computers. If you don't try to fix a problem you ain't gonna learn nothing. If you always take your PC to a repair shop you will be doing it all your life and will never be able to fix anything. Been fooling with computers for about 6 years now and have never took my PC to a repair shop. If I can't fix it I post here for solutions.

With 1st Class Tech having a Reseller Rating of 3.4, have you had any problems with them?

BTW, I'd say start her off with an nForce MB and build it out from there. 🙂
Also try and squeeze her in a 19" Mag Vision from OD or BB for about $150-$160 after rebate.
 
Dont forget the cost of the operating system. They are not free unless <Gasp> you have one to use. Have a look at the TV special

Unless she really has a need for something faster than an 800MHz or 950MHz processor, why spend the money??? If you go to Pricewatchyou can find a barebones Duron 800MHz system for around $80!!! That includes a case, motherboard, cpu and usually a fan.

I suggest you try various combinations from buying the barebones to getting each part separately... it can change the price depending on what you are getting. Of course I am assuming that you are capable of actually building her a computer from scratch, installing mb, power supply, RAM and all the other little things that are involved. And check out the March issue of Maximum PC magazine, they have done a special on how to build your own PC... there might be something useful to you in it.🙂

Lastly: Make back-ups of everthing you do for her, you will need them soon most likely. 😉

That statement has saved me hundreds of times....when you see a tech nightmare coming charge accordingly

You can't beat some of the low prices on premade systems from a company like Dell. I say a TV ad for them last night and I think they had a$699 price with monitor. A quick check of the dell site has a p4-1.6 for $499 with free shipping. A first time PC buyer should probably stick with a system from a big PC maker just to handle questions, support, and warranty.

Go with a Dell.

But, if you insist on building one, I would recommend getting a motherboard that you can get the most on-board stuff out of...

I know a guy who is getting a Dell, or an IBM because is sick being his own tech support. He always has the strangest and most relentless problems with his systems I have ever heard.
