1st major upgrade in about 20 months. System will be used for gaming and general wasting of time:

Athlon 64 3000+, retail HSF
Chaintech ZNF3-150
2x 512 MB Kingston HyperX Series DDR PC-3500
ATI 9700 Pro
Antec SX835II
Lite On DVD-RW/+RW Drive, Model LDW-811S

Goes with my present 120GB WD1200JB and 100GB WD1000BB HDs, LiteOn 16x DVD-ROM, Logitech MX700, 450W PS, and Samsung 19". Sooner or later I'll get one of those Raptor drives.

Opinions? I'm looking for a decent 5.1 speaker setup too.

Well the ZNF3-150 is an Athlon64 board and you have an Athlon XP picked out. That won't get you very far.

excuse me, I mistyped. the 3000+ is of course an Athlon 64. too many years of owning an XP I guess.

except for the mobo/cpu discrepancy pointed out, i'd say everything else looks nice. not sure what the price diff is now, but the 2500+ is still a great OCing chip if you can maybe save yourself some $ there

From most of Anand's benchmarks, I'd say you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 9700 Pro and 9800 pro, so you could save some money there.
