Ok just curious what kind of results people are getting with the mobile bartons.

I'm running mine at 2.3ghz@1.75v using the zalman cnps7000a, I'm really starting not to like this cooler because i noticed sometimes when i install it, my cpu runs hotter, sometime it runs cooler, guess depending on how it sits on the CPU, also when i took it off i can tell on my CPU core that the heatsink is not pressing ont the surface evenly at all, but only in small spots on each side of the core... anyways i'll stop rambling, any suggestions and results welcome here.

Lap the heatsink.

I have a mobile 2400 running at 2.3(13.5x170@1.675V). Using an Alpha 8045 (lapped) with AS3 and a 49cfm fan. Doesn't break 37C under load. My basement is about 20-25 ambient.

Are you reapplying thermal compound everytime you reinstall your cooler?

I have no problems with temperatures and am impressed with my XP2500+ and CNPS-7000A.

where would i get a heatsink lapped? or how do i go about doing it myself? yes i do apply new thermal grease each time, usually remove old as well.

I don't have one but I've been seeing outrageous overclocks with those cpus. One for instance was a 2500+ Mobile , overclocked to 2.6 Ghz! (from 1.8).

Just got a 2500+ oc to 2400 GHZ - at 1.65v with a 10$ Thermaltake TR2 -MM3 (or something like that) HSF... My CPU temp's 49 degrees running F@H...

are these speeds tested for stability with prime95 or just what the system seems to run on?

I haven't finished checking to see how low I can get the voltage... but I'm currently at 1.75 volts still, running 2.4 Ghz (209x11.5) and it's perfectly stable. Eventually I'll turn the voltage down... but I can't go much higher than that cause at higher speeds it draws so much current that my power supply is having a hard time keeping up... so until I get a new one of those, I need to keep it around 2.4... but I bet once I get some stable power, I can keep it at 2.5 @ 1.75 volts or maybe less.

2 x 2500+'s on an msi k7d, currently running 17 x 138 (2.35ghz) at 1.72v. Will run 2.5ghz but pci bus out of spec causing errors, needs 18x multiplier.

I'm running my Mobile 2500+ at 11.5x215(2473mHz) At 1.70v I can also run at 12.5x200 (2500mHz) stable at 1.7V too on my SLK-947U w/ a Tornado (3000RPM).. Processor doesn't get over 38C underload and my case doesn't go over 22C usually case is under 20C most of the time though

I'm currently running my mobile 2400+ at 2.2Ghz at 1.6V, my load temp hovers around 46c in my relatively hot bedroom in my apartment, my RAM timings are 6-3-3-2.5.

The longest I've been able to run Prime95 is 7 hours and it was without errors. Gonna take time this weekend to do it for a good long time and see how long it lasts. Memtest85 also came back good. Then I'll probably try to up my FSB a little if my OCZ PC3200 RAM will tolerate it.

195Mhz x 9.5 @ 1.45v

Of course, I was aiming for stable and quiet and I got it.

my m-2600+ so far:

2.2ghz w/1.42v
2.3ghz w/1.50v
2.4ghz w/1.62v
2.5ghz w/1.70v

all prime stable 16+ hours. i'm having trouble hitting 2.6ghz stable and i'm considering setting up my watercooling again... :D
i'm finding this barton to run a little hotter than my tbredb, but then again i couldn't find my artic silver and just used some generic paste i have laying around.

Running a mobile 2500+ at 2.333 GHz (166x14), 1.625V. Temps decent (~55c full load) in a soltek qbic mini-case. Previous athlon xp 2700+ ran at 65c. Can't bump up the FSB any more because I have DDR333 ram.

The 2600+ XP-M I got from Newegg is running 2.5Ghz (200 x 12.5) @ 1.65v, with a Alpha 8045 and a 24CFM Coolermaster QLED fan. Tested Prime95 stable for 48 hours.

Mine does 2.2Ghz @ 1.45v, 2.3Ghz @ 1.50v, 2.4Ghz @ 1.575v as well.

Complete system specs here

:)

BTW...it's a IQYHA, week 01 of 2004.

:)

What heatsink would you guys recommend for this thing? I am really thinking about getting an Alpha pal8045, i had very good luck with an alpha a while go when i had a Pentium3. Anything better out there then this? Btw i'm probably gonna pick up a used one so the price is not too much an issue...

The Alpha would be nice, and is about ~$30 without a fan. If you can spend about ~$7 more, the Thermalright SLK947-U is even better.

:)

how the hell do you guys manage to keep the voltage so low with those speeds, or are you just making up numbers?

A couple days ago I read of a guy who got 3ghz using a Prometia setup. He hadn't tested it thoroughly yet, but 3dMark and UT2k3(I believe) worked fine. Not sure what Voltage he was using.

Is this proof enough for you?

Oh...and

* > Thermaltake crap :p

It's comparing it to a smaller TR unit and a HSF that much over the weight spec of ANY socket should not be using a clip...period.

Of course..that won't stop the TT fanboys from using them...

Edit:

IMO ;)

if it was too much weight it wouldn't have been made, its also $10 less AND it comes with a 75CFM fan. seeems like a great deal to me.

as for the voltage, gah, i wish i could run mine lower.

How much less heat do mobile Barton's put out, and what's the lowest voltage they can be set to and still work - possibly with a little multiplier underclocking. (approx numbers of course)?

I reckon they would be quite good for a HTPC with low noise (and a seperate machine for encoding), so basically running the main video stream/mp3's/broadband firewall.

Anyone tried using an XP-M in a low noise PC?

Mobile 2400+: 2.4GHz @ 1.7v

Could go higher, but I don't want to increase the voltage any more.

Lonyo - All of the mobile chips can run at their rated speed with only 1.45v.

I was more interested in underclocking for a quiet system (ie: bit HS, very low rpm/cfm fan) and low case airflow too. Getting the CPU's even lower down the voltage :)
