Ok I'm sitting there watching tv. The volume is fine. Then a commercial comes on and it is SCREAMING. I'm sick and freaking tired of this.

Where do I lodge my complaint? Anything I can do?

Thats not the point. Why can't they broadcast at a stable volume? I'm sick of this!!!!

The same thing happens with me. I have to turn it up when I am watching the show but once commercials come on I have to grab the remote to turn it down.

I hate USA. The volume fluctuates like crazy on that channel. When I watch TV, I usually watch it with the volume turned really low (and I'd like it to stay that way).

The volume fluctuates because some of the commercials are broadcast from local sources, you want to make note of which stations and specific commercials do this and talk to your local affiliate.

Eat a poop sandwich on toast with mustard, mayonaise, pickles, tomato and lettuce. It may not solve your problem but it will make you forget about it for awhile.

Isn't it illegal for commericals to be broadcast louder or lower than the normal program?

Seems I remember reading something about that a few years ago.

I notice a HUGE difference going between HD content and SD content going through the optical audio cable...

Commercials have ALWAYS been louder than programming. Ever since the 70's (only because that's when I started watching TV. Could be earlier though...)

Many TVs and receivers have a "level audio" function to protect against that. But ya just gotta deal with it.

As for legality: All the commercial producers have to do is load the commercial with specific frequency sounds and music that appear louder than they are and then ramp up the vocals so they can be heard. It stays within the letter of the law, if not the spirit of the law.

They probably realise that people nip out of the room when advertisements come on, so they get the hunch... "there's no hiding from us, notch up the volume and broadcast it throughout the house so everyone can get to hear", why advertise to a room load of people when you can broadcast to a house full ;)

But to answer your question, haven't a clue, look up the station website for the mail address to lodge complaints too.

Blow up tv.
Sue tv manufacture for making tv that can be blown up.
Profit.
