<< OK, what government was there previously?

Clue: The Turks ruled it until 1917. The Brits had it after that until post WWII when Israel was established.

So correct me if I'm wrong. The land belongs to whomever claims it for a government?
>>

Pretty much, yep. BTW, the land doesn't belong to the Israeli government, it belongs to whomever owns it.

I know this could be a flame bait statement. I think the creation of Israel was a mistake. This situation will only cause more bloodshed. Israel answering human bombs with attacks using fighter planes and tanks. And people blowing themselves up to kill Jews in response to Israeli attacks.

<< edit: the UN isn't the only party responsible, religion is probably almost as big a culprit. >>

Religion isn't the cause of war. If religion didn't exist, it would be something else. Money, land, power. People cause wars, not religion.

<< GOD DAMN. WHY THE HECK CAN'T WE ALL GET ALONG!!!!!!

and to think that none of this might have happened if that stupid steaming pile of poo that is the UN wouldn't have given away land from a non-member country that it(the UN) had no business in giving away.

and oh what's this i hear, for the 1st time in its history, the UN recently won a nobel peace prize. how ironic.. how sad.. how F---ed up and twisted that the one single orginization that is probably responsible for all the violence in the middle east, and in large part responsible for many of the anti-western feelings in the world wins a PEACE PRIZE of all things. how ironic indeed.

and to all that are saying things about the suicide bombers give the crazy guys/gals a break. they are doing all they can. they don't have the power to stand up to the isrealis in a "proper" or "honorable" fashion. they are doing all they can. they are not "cowards," they are revolutionaries. they just want some change. </vent>

edit: the UN isn't the only party responsible, religion is probably almost as big a culprit.
>>

Ever hear of the Iran-Iraq war ? 2 million people died in that one.

The claim that the existance of Israel is the cause for violence in the Middle East is a joke.

Arabs would have simply gone at each other with greater gusto.

mboy,
A kippah is jewish headgear, you know that small cap that jews wear at the back of the head. I guess they were it for religious purposes, just like people wear "towel heads" as you call it for religious purposes. 🙂

its far easier to fight and die in way if your a religious zealot convinced that your existence won't end at death and in fact that you'll be recieving wonderful rewards for your actions.

Jews wear a kippah for religious purposes, to remind them at all times that there is a higher being. The arab headgear on males is NOT for religious purposes. It originally started when they wore it in the desert areas to keep the sand out of their eyes. Now its just traditional. However, the headgear that the arab women wear IS for religious reasons.

ThePresence, thats not the point. Calling someone a 'beloved patriot' because of what he wears on his head is inapproriate. It doesn't matter if the headgear is for religious or cultural reasons. we should respect the individuals reason for wearing it, instead of being biased and calling it a beloved patriot.

Ok, I was just correcting a small mistake on your part, about the arab headgear.

Israel = 21st century Nazi-esque regime, Palestinians = Peasent minority trying to fight back with fewer options

Both sides are totally wrong in this conflict, with all the violence. Israel has been proven to use torture and illegal imprisonment on any Palestinians they please. They kill them in droves, and say it is retaliation for the bomb last week. Yadda, yadda...the cycle continues.

The Israelis are killing an awful lot of people these days...retalitory or not.
The people who created Israel originally were running away from and criticizing Hitler for doing the same thing to them. Funny how history repeats itself and cultures can be so forgetting.

Valinos, I agree with everything your said. The bloody israelis are really the terrorists, and just use the bombings as an excuse to oppress more innocent civilians.

Washingtonpost.com

<<Huda Hawaja, a mother of four girls and a boy, was expecting the unwelcome visitors, so she went to greet them at the door. But the Israeli soldiers, moving house to house in search of gunmen and arms, did not knock. They blew in Hawaja's metal door as she was crossing from the kitchen into the central hall. Cinder-block and metal fragments pierced her body as her children looked on. She bled to death>>

Complete and utter bullsh!t.

The Israelis have NO parallel to the Nazis whatsoever. No person or religion is denied equal and full rights in Israel. Israeli Arabs, no matter their religion, have full and equal rights in Israel.

The people of the occupied territories HAD the option of becoming Israeli citizens, but refused. They were also refused entry into the Arabs countries, while at the same time, the Arab nations have used the Palestinians to fight a proxy war against Israel.

You obviously have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: It amazes me that people with little to no knowledge of the history, or even current events of the region think they can form an opinion on it.

<<

<< <<The problem is, the land HAD no government, no structure, and no real "owners" when Israel was established.>>
Thats total b.s. and a misrepresentation of the rule of law in that land before the British. The British usurped power from another group, they did not fill in a political vacuum.
>>

Since no one's answered...it was the Ottoman Empire before WWI

<< <<I want to kill terrorists.>>

How can you tell whose a terrorist, since both the israelis and palestinians have done their part in murdering civilians. Or do you choose whose a terrorist based on religion?
>>

I didn't imply anything...just said "terrorists" and you put your own prejudiced views on it. Maybe you're the racist one 🙂

Grommet5

What do you think of the role of the other Arab nations in keeping the Palestinians in refugee camps instead of assimilating them into their countries?

Do you think that the Palestinians were being used as a weapon against an Israeli state withour regard to their welfare?

Can you acknowledge the difference between searching for "gunmen and arms" and straping semtex around your waist and going into a pizza parlor?

AmusedOne, From what i've read, israeli authorities, can detain and interogate whoever they want, and infact they can kill whoever without any consequences. Now doesn't that sound like a nazi-esque regime?

Another suicide bombing took place in a Jerusalem Cafe today too. 11 dead innocents and 50+ wounded. Why did you ignore that story?

Anyone gonna answer this?

Can I get the source on that?

Well let me ask you something, the troops who killed that mother or 4, will they be disciplined, or will they be let go. Probably let go, because its just a paletinian mother and not a jewish one.

And any time a Palestinian militant gets taken into custody by Arafat's police, do you think they are disciplined, or just let go?

Czar, that's what happens when you have a terrorist group so tightly interweaved with a civilian population. There is NO way to differentiate the terrorists from the civilians. The civilian population has only themselves to blame for supporting, both morally and physically, the terrorists among them.

The Palestinians have no one but themselves, and the Arab nations that use them as lackeys to blame for this. They've waged repeated wars against a country, lost, and now whine when that country seeks to defend itself against cowardly terrorist attacks.

Again, the question here is THIS:

If the Palestinians stopped all terrorist attacks, would Israel still be attcking them? NO

If the Israelis stopped all retaliation, would the Palestinians still commit terrorist attacks against innocent Israeli citizens? YES

These questions, and their obvious answers are all one needs to know to realize that the Palestinians are at fault here.

bombermam, i really don't think arafat police have any police stations to take in any militants, because the bloody israelis have blown all them up with apache helicopters. So obviously they have no place to hold this militants.

Sorry, detain, yes, kill, no.

And this power is the same power the US used in occupied territories after WWII.

They had the chance to become Israeli citizens and live in peace. They refused and decided to fight a war by proxy for the Arabs nations and be used as cannon fodder.
