<< The U.N. needs to declare whos land is whos - neither side is going to like it, but you let anyone that needs to move do so, then create a 10 mile wide strip of no-man's land, patrolled by and guarded by U.N. soldiers.
Israel and Palestine will bitch and moan and yell for years that the land dividing wasn't fair, etc etc etc. But with no one left to actually physically fight, maybe they will get on with life in another 40 years or so. >>
First of all, if you return to the pre-1967 borders, the state of Israel would only be about 6 miles wide in some areas. SIX MILES! You have to realize that you're dealing with a country approx. the size of New Jersey. Secondly, Israel would never agree to have UN soldiers patroolling their border, and rightfully so. Some Indian UN troops actively participated in the kidnapping of 3 Israeli soldiers last year, and then Kofi Annan refused to release the video of the kidnapping which he admitted he possesed, even though it would have given Israel a clue to their wherebouts. Thirdly, the UN said already in 1949 whos land was who's. The Palestinians heard what the UN had to say, and promptly went to war.
