OK....I'm stuck. Received cpu, not charged for it.

I ordered a cpu and motherboard combo from Micro Center last week (on Feb. 12, one wek ago) but found a better price within an hour of placing the order. (It was an Asus P5B and an Intel E4300.)

I called and emailed to cancel the order and while my calls went unheeded (no one answered as they were being hit with that blizzard last week in Ohio), I guess my emails did get received as the hold on my credit card for the order was withdrawn and I showed no active order in their system.

Fast forward to today......I already received the cpu I'm going to use...an E6600 from HW Rebuild. Got it this morning to finally get all my parts for my build.

But I get a FedEx delivery from Micro Center about an hour ago and it contains no motherboard but an Intel E4300 cpu.

I called about 45 minutes ago and talked with a CSR. They have no record of my order, I've never been charged anything for it or the motherboard I previously ordered (it's like the order was wiped from their memory or something) and she said she has no way to accept a return for the cpu that they have no record of me ordering. I even gave her the Central Order Number on the packing slip that was in the box but nothing shows up for her. Even my customer number comes up blank for her.

Now, I'm stuck with a cpu I cannot return or use. What the heck to do with it? Retailed box, looks nice, but now what? Drive 3 1/2 hours one way back to one of their retail stores and give it back to them over the counter? And I don't know what that'd really do as there seems to be no record of this at all in their system.

Stumped.

Tell them that you'll be happy to return it if you can get a shipping label and sit on it. They can't charge you now, afaik.

I'd hold onto it for a few weeks and see if anything shows up on your card.

After that, since you even tried calling and returning it (the right thing to do), I'd say either keep it or sell it.

I'll take it. Then I'd just have to figure out how to get a MB, RAM, and video card and my upgrade would be complete.

I sorta asked about that, too. She said she/they would have no way to process a return on a part that they don't show being sold to me. Go figure.

Doesn't sound like they have any interest in charging him, or even getting their CPU back...

Well, I've stuck it back in the box it came in along with the packing slip and stuck it on a shelf. Going to watch for charges on my card........but I hate it sitting gathering dust and wasting away. LOL!

Yeah.....the attitude of the CSR was like "Whatever"....or maybe more like "It's not my money, I don't care."

The basic problem.....I don't want it, I don't need it and I certainly don't want to be charged for something I tried to cancel a week ago despite them sending it.

I just hate the idea that a charge for this will turn up "mysteriously" a week or so down the road. That's the problem.

Well if it doesn't, look on the bright side:

Free cpu!

Ask them to check their inventory list; if it was never actually sold, it might still show up in their count for the CPUs on hand. So if there was no sale, they'd still have it officially part of inventory. Then you could just send it back, they could put it on the shelf, and everything's taken care of.

Talk to a supervisor or manager, or something of that equivalent.

You're legally entitled to keep it now that you made mention that you didn't pay for it, and they admitted that there's nothing to be done.

If they won't pay to have it shipped back, then you're not doing anything wrong, not even morally.

Keep it, sell it, whatever.

Here's what I say - call them back and ask to speak to a supervisor. Be damn sure they don't want the thing back. If they still don't want it, it's yours. If you still feel guilty or just want to do a good deed, sell it and donate the money to charity.

The exact same thing happened to my roommate with NewEgg... However, when he called and reported the problem to the CSR, they indicated they had no record but insisted that he had to send it back (at his expense) or he'd get charged again for the 2nd CPU... He told them to f-off, it was their mistake and they can pay for shipping if they want it back or he wasn't going to send it. They never did, and he never sent it back, and was never charged for it. However, I'd suggest to be on the safe side, to wait on it for a bit to see if the order ends up appearing in their system.
