I just saw a preview for that movie "Like Mike" and there was that Lil Bow-wow kid wanna be OG thug, and then his friends, a white kid and an asian kid. Now when it was at the end, the announcer goes something like this:

"Like Mike, starring Lil Bow-wow and <name of that white kid who I forgot>. Starts <date of movie that I forgot>"

Ok.. there were THREE kids as the main characters. The preview had all three kids in most of the scenes, yet the Asian girl doesn't get her name mentioned? Yes, I realize this may be just a tiny detail they "forgot" but remember when Lethal Weaon 4 came out and Jet Li wasn't even on the cover of the first round of movie posters? Hell, Renee Russo was on there and she plays more of a minor role than Jet. So much racial bias in the world today. *siiiigh*

Yeah, us whities are trying to hold down the asians....

Anyway, the probable reason the Jet wasn't on the cover of Lethal Weapon IV is that he was a relative new-comer to the USA film arena and Renee was in the third movie.

It's not about race, it's about what will sell a movie. They'll use name/image recognition, both positive and negative.

O Brother Where Art Thou didn't have a view of Clooney's face on the poster because it was thought that it would taint the feel of the movie.

Jet Li likely wasn't mentioned because the majority of the American public doesn't know who the hell Jet Li is.

You know, call your congressman or someone who gives a damn. No wait that's not PC. Hmm.. I feel your pain..Yeah that's the ticket!

Boycott the movie! They're not getting my dollars or my time after this injustice. Yeah, stick it to Hollywood!

(wasn't going to see this movie anyway.. 🙂)

So who is this white kid I've never heard of then? I've seen some previews where the announcer says, "Starring <insert name of famous actor> and introducing <insert name of new actor here>". Gimme a break man, they could've done that with Jet. Sure it's all about money, but somewhere in there, it smells fishy.

Don't worry. The movie is about as doumb as one can go. Lil Bow wow is the most pathetic media creation I've ever seen. And rap is supposed to be "keepin' it real". KEEPING WHAT REAL, DAMMIT! WHAT?

This is the second time I'm writing this today:

This is the product of extreme political correctness (that is, everyone always feeling "oppressed" or "discriminated against".) This is not even worth complaining about. Focus your energy on REAL discrimination.

Yeah I don't think it's a race thing either.. I think it's a fame thing.
notice as you referred to the other person as "the asian girl"
cause no one knows who she is.. so who cares what her name is? she's not famous. not saying this is "right" but most people don't care if it's no one famous.

Here's the thing - the billing(who's name goes on the poster) of movies is HUGE. It is completely driven by politics of the actors/actresses in the movie. There are super stringent guidlines set by the studios when the posters are made. Certain names cannot be higher than another. So and so's name can't be bigger/bolder/brighter than someone elses. You can't show Person X on a Poster without putting Actress Y on there either. It's a huge game of politics.

I would imagine that the movie trailers are no different.

It's all about negotiations and compromise. Li was probably offered a role in the movie with the understanding that he wouldn't get a top billing. If he had requested top billing, the Lethal Weapon producers probably would have told him to take a hike. He didn't have much choice since it was his first BIG widely viewed movie. Either suck up your pride, or risk not getting the exposure.

It works the other way around. Tom Cruise can have movie studio actively recruit him to do a movie. If they don't give him top bill, he'll walk. Since he's one of the biggest names in hollywood, and since the studio comes to him, they'll agree.

Politics and Popularity.

Exactly -- no evil plot, just marketing to make money. Ads are not credits, they're to sell the product. Jet Li would be mentioned now because people know who he is. Now that Bridget Fonda's star has faded I don't recall having her name mentioned in the Kiss of the Dragon ads. Racism!! Opressing white folks!!

ok ok ok.. the white kid's name is Jonathan Lipnicki, the Asian girl's name is Brenda Song. I'm not saying that the whole reason they never mentioned her was racial, I'm just saying that there's SOME sort of racial motivation involved. And now I'm done whining. Keep the flames coming!

This is a non-issue. It's driven by money, money, money, that's it. If you're going to pick up this argument at least present something even remotely worth arguing.

It's not an issue and it wouldn't have EVER been an issue if you didn't make it an issue. It's people like you that make certain that racism will thrive for a long time to come.
