Ok I'm confused: Will winXP run all Win98/WinME games?

I just installed WinXP RC-1 yesterday and everything seems pretty cool. I tried to play Superbike 2001 (won't work in Win2k) and it wouldn't work. I thought I remembered reading that WinXP will be compatible with games made for Windows98/ME. Is this correct or are these games still going to be unplayable on XP?

XP is basicaly Win2k with a pretty GUI.

If your games didnt work in Win2k they will not work in XP either.

XP has a mode that allows you to play some of your older games.

I have seen screenshots of XP running old dos games fine, etc...

This is false. WinXP comes with a compatibility toolkit (which is available for Win2k as well, although not from MS) which allows you to run programs and games which you couldn't run under Win2k.

Elledan is right. Just b/c is didn't run on 2k doesn't mean it won't run on Xp. HOWEVER, remember though, that it is still a compatibility toolkit, which means that not every game for 9x will definately work. It just has a better chance of working in XP than in 2k.

Did you even try XP ? i tried RC1 &amp; it's not any better than Win2k.

Yes. Everything that I've tried to get working, from 10-15 year old DOS games to pain-in-the-ass EA games that don't work in Win2k work great.
