Ok, I'm a n00b. How do I partition a drive to install Win8, and still access.....

Access all of my programs?

I have a back up computer that I have some programs that I don't want to lose or lose access to. And I've never really worried about that before, since all I ever did was just re-install the programs. but in some of these instances, I can't anymore.

Anything and everything will be appreciated.

thank you in advance....

Get a free partition manager like the one from minitools shrink the partition your software is on and then create a new one from the empty space you just created,as soon as you install windows and boot into the new partition you will (probably) be able to delete the old windows folders.

Still it's a gamble, some installed software runs fine after you change the os others do not

Why you can't just reinstall? If those programs require Windows XP environment, can't you just run them in a Virtual machine or something?
