hmmm, never had that much trouble with the game, and I start everything on hard. I too used a lot of mines vs Big Daddy's. Big, but dumb.

I loved the art direction and the atmosphere of the game, but the gameplay was disappointing for me. There was just something boring about it.

Edit: As far as Big Daddies go, if it's a charger just let him charge, step out of the way, and shotgun him. If it's a Riveter, shock and shoot.

10 years from now, Bioshock will be one of the first games that comes to mind when I think of games that left its mark on me. A lot of today's "best" games are good, but also entirely forgettable. Bioshock does not fall into that category one bit for me. I have no problem with the overwhelming praise it was given.

Theres absolutely nothing that stands out about bioshock, it was okay, fine, not bad, passable. Definitely not 96% though.

Yeah, I quit and went back to playing Borderlands. Bioshock was just too boring. Seriously, Borderlands is more fun with my 3rd character, having completed all available playthroughs for 2 previous characters.

I never understood why Bioshock was rated so well but Doom 3 so poorly. IMO Doom 3 was basically the same game, but better in every way where it tried (story telling, creepy atmosphere, etc). In both games the actual combat was mediocre.

Bioshock was just too much a rerun for me, not to mention that most features shown in the dev videos were either a lie or a gimmick.

Gosh I tried this game but it seemed hokey. Wonder how it got such a high rating on Steam (or metacritic or whatever)?

Well eventually I got frustrated with Bioshock, turned on God mode and enjoyed the rest of the story. Very cool. If it weren't so difficult I'd recommend it based solely on the story.

Now I just started Bioshock 2, which for whatever reason seems much, MUCH easier. I have plenty of ammo, plenty of money, plenty of adam... Plus all the controls seem more simplified and everything is just sort of streamlined (maybe dumbed down?) The story has pulled me in and I'm having a great time. I can't think of the last time I liked a sequel more than the original.

Bioshock is a great game.

As for effective killing, you just need to judiciously choose your weapons/tonics/plasmids. The best combination of them will allow easy killing. Tactics are also important. Telekinesis against a Rosie is your best weapon. Just send his grenades back at him. Insect Swarm 2 or higher is very effective against anything. Security Plasmid is also good against a Big Daddy. Paint him with it in the vicinity of a security camera and then release insect swarm. The bots and swarm will take a lot out of a Big Daddy. You can use the enrage plasmid to send splicers (esp Houdini splicers) after him too.

Bioshock 2 is a very different game, but I liked it. The DLC like Minerva's Den and Protector Trials are good too.

I actually disagree with almost everyone here lol. Bioshock was perhaps the only FPS that I loved and wanted to finish. I'll admit, the beginning is kind of....weird because you are basically thrown into a situation but as you progress the game gets really good. I took my time with the game and explored every inch of the levels and harvested all the little sisters. The last boss fight was kind of disappointing, I dropped him in like 2 minutes(I was playing with medium difficulty) and the fact that the main character doesn't talk much also irked me a little. Art/Atmosphere was amazing, I spent a lot of time just looking at the posters on the wall.

Now to get back on topic, for the Big Daddies my favorite strategy was to shock them and shoot them with electric bucks. Took em down really fast. You can also use turrets and bots to supplement your attacks and don't be afraid to kite/hide around the area. I always made sure I had a pillar around me so I can kite the sucker around it to reload/pop syringe.

Personally and honestly, while others may or may not disagree, I found Bioshock to be a personal favourite of mine. The art direction, the atmosphere, the story, it was all so captivating. I rarely, RARELY, complete the majority of single player games, mostly because I'm very picky when it comes to games. However, Bioshock captivated me and sucked me into the world of rapture. I enjoyed the first, and the second as well. I cant wait for infinite, but I feel the direction they took it is kind of iffy. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I found Bioshock 1 and 2 VERY good! I play games on the hardest difficulty all the time so it's no cake walk...

Again, I wish those who are just down on EVERY PC game out there would go take up car modeling or something...

I would of renamed it Biocrap, seriously probably the most overrated game I ever played, remember all those reviews that gave it 10/10 I wonder how much they were payed for those scores.

I agree it was boring and really nothing special at all, shows what hyped up reviews can do.

For every game you like, somebody is going to dislike it...

But it is not like it is the same person who hates all PC games. We post in the PC gaming forum because we like PC games.

I thought Bioshock was a mediocre shooter, worthy or 6 or 7 out of 10, but that doesn't mean I hate every PC game.

I don't think anyone is like that here...
