Any good suggestions as to a new game? I loved UT, been playing it like a psycho for the last couple of months. I like 1st person shooters- don't like the "travel around and solve the puzzles" type of games. Was gonna try Quake 3, but I hear it's not suppose to be as good as UT. Any ideas?????

For something a bit more tactical, try Rogue Spear. Very realistic, 1 shot kills type of an affair with quite good lastability etc. A bit different from the likes of UT but great fun nontheless if stealth and sniping is your cup of tea. 🙂

Now you need to get on the net and play against some big boys. Test your skill against soomeon like Kravnos, Becks or Defbringer. I thought I was good until I ran into those guys where they toss me around like a salad.

what kind of salad? ceasar? chicken? potatoe? hehe 🙂
i agree, i thought i was ok .. then some of these guys showed me what "Owned" means...
i was their bitch.. wonder how they are so good?

IMO the original Rainbow 6 is better than Rogue Spear. The graphics in RS are a lot better, but the gameplay and maps in R6 are much better. My $.02

Shagga: nope- never tried Half Life- heard lots of good about it though.
Downloaded the Q3 demo last night( of course when everyone else on the face of the planet was on-line) and liked it alot. Game play seemed real fast. Is that written in open gl? The textures seemed alot different from UT.

Yes, Quake 3 is OpenGL only. With your setup, you could crank the details right up with 32bit colour and still get super smooth gameplay. BTW - you should definitely play Half Life - I'm sure there's a demo on that same site as well 🙂

Personally, I think you really don't need anything more than the demo of Q3A. I was perfectly happy playing that for months. When I finally got the full game, it was just more of the same. Actually, I mostly play Morpheus in UT anyway, so you really don't need the full game there either 🙂.

Half-Life single player has a fair share of key hunting/jumping/puzzle solving, so that may not be your cup of tea if you mostly enjoy DM style stuff. But I surely do enjoy fighting grunts 🙂. HL does have an ass-load of good mods and DM play as well though. If you're looking for a straight-up run and gun type single player game try Kiss😛sycho Circus (yes, you heard me 😉). The demo is pretty good and very indicative of the game. Also Kingpin (yes, you heard me again), believe it or not, is alot of fun if it's patched-upand run on a fast machine.

If you really want to try the opposite end of the FPS spectrum, System Shock 2 is THE thinking man's shooter. This also has a great demo.

Buy Half Life, not only is it one of the best single player FPS ever, but Team Fortress rocks, not to mention Counterstrike, the best multiplayer team game. Rainbow Six:RS could be the best, but not enuff maps, and NO LEVEL EDITOR????? what crap, and putting boxes in the way does not constitute editing. Also, SWAT3: Close quarters battle is shippign any day now. The best mixture of R6, CS, and it uses Worldcraft for levels, so there should be a lot of new levels coming out.
And Strike Force: for UT is pretty good, just not too complete yet. Regardless of what they say, its basically Counterstrike for UT, and that's fine by me!

thanks for all the help, gang. Starting to get hooked on Q3, guess we;ll download the HL demo, and see how it goes.
SnowPatrol: I dialed up everything to the max, and the game is gorgeous !!!

Grrr I'm jealous man. I've only got a Voodoo 3 here 🙁

The gaming will never end online unless you:

1. Don't have a fast connection.

2. Don't like Coop-type games.

3. Get sick of DM.

4. Crave a good single player story-driven experience.

I like DM every now and then, but I'm not a team player 🙂, so I generally don't enjoy team type games. Unless its over a LAN against friends, I'd actually rather play against bots than random people over the internet. I enjoy having a developer give me an involving, story-driven experience even more. Guess I'm a control freak.

OMG, play online!!! fragging computer bots gives me an empty feeling... playing online and killing real players makes me feel like a fvckin god. Err.. did i say that.

I do play online, mostly Q3A, I just got tired of it. I'd much rather know who I'm fragging. Maybe once voice-over-net technology improves it'll be better, but I get an empty feeling from fragging anonymous people over the internet. It's just too impersonal. for me.

True that. Its much more fun if you play with someone you know, either together or on the same team. It makes it more personal even if you know just one person in the game and you can then laugh later about how many times you killed him.
