Ok heres the story.

I had 2 machines in my house going to a linksys router with cable connection. NO PROBLEMS at all. I build a third pc and buy a netgear nic. It finds the network card but will not connect on the internet. I try it on all 3 machines, no go. I buy 2 different more brands of network cards, NONE work on any of the pcs, YET the pcs find them and install the device. I put the original NICS back in the machines and EVEN on the new pc and WHAMMO it works.

WHY wont these nics i buy work on ANY pc yet the original ones will? They are all major brand network cards too, i am SO confused......

PS. I have tried every nic combo on each pc and even different router ports and cables etc.

Ok I have a small breakthrough, maybe this will help.

On a machine that WORKS, I did ipconfig /release and went to a machine with a nic that supposedly didnt connect and typed ipconfig /renew

it found the router etc and connected to the internet. so i went back to the original machine and typed ipconfig /renew but it timed out. Now i always had 2 machines working on this 4 port router, so why not a third?

What ports do you have the cables plugged into the Router? Have you tried plugging all computers into the Router and then resetting the router via the reset button?

Make sure that in your router's setup that you have more than 2 on ur DHCP server's ip count. Put it to like 10 so that you can have up to 10 pc's hooked to the router. It maybe the fact that it has ran out of ip's to give to your 3rd pc. For example if your count is set to 2 right now and the default starting ip is 192.168.01 and you would get 192.168.0.2 and thats it when you try to hook ur 3rd pc it doesn't have any more ip's available to give to the 3rd pc so thats why it doesn't work. Goto internet explorer and type the routers ip address which I belive for linksys it's 192.168.1.1 and then admin and the password you have. Then go into the DHCP settings and make sure you have it set to handle as many pc's as you need.
