Its true for most people who have addictive personalities that WoW will ruin your life. I played WoW for roughly a year (since launch), while holding 2 jobs, and a gf.

In reality I should've quit much earlier because I didn't get much enjoyment at the end. It didn't ruin my life but I know many many people that have had their lives ruined by it.

no, wow ends at 60 because all thats left is a raid and grindfest.
Casual WoW ends at 60. Hardcore WoW begins at 60.

Did you do any dungeons? Did you play the battlegrounds? Did you do any class-specific quests? Did you join a guild? Did you level up your professions?

If not, then you barely scratched the beginning levels of the game.

Also, the game changes one you get up there in the high levels.

Yeah they're right, the game changes do different looking cartoon crap graphics as you get higher and higher. It's so cool. Who needs saturday morning cartoons anymore when you can play an MMO that LOOKS like a cartoon and is filled with annoying children! yay

wow someones bitter, that blue item you been grinding for didnt drop?

i for one like the unique look of WoW...better than some of the games that try the realistic-look approach...to me that looks silly...

Yes, the blue item didn't drop..... blue items were crap, I had mostly epic before i quit

The game is pure Sh!t. I played the end content for raiders, and I have to say that I've wasted a year of my life. I'm glad I'm done with it, and that the ebay money will buy me a ps3.

EDIT: Battlegrounds suck, and so do static raid encounters.

It's a never ending addictive grind. I played for a while but had to make myself stop. I got tired of spending 4 hours playing WoW and realizing I barely accomplished anything in the game. You can spend half your time just traveling from place to place.

I think fs5 is correct in his assessment that a lot of it has to do with the "social" aspect of the game. Being able to play in a massive world with hundreds of other human players is really the only thing that makes the game playable. Without that it would just be a slow paced boring FedEx-like quest-a-thon.

And, of course, "social" is a relative term. It's a community as much as, and possibly more than, a forum like this one, but it's hard to call anything that involves sitting by yourself at a PC for hours truly social. I've got a friend who started playing the same time I did that is utterly addicted. I've tried to get him to quit and a couple of times he has taken a couple of weeks off, but he keeps going back. It's really sad... he'll say he's coming over to visit or going to join us for poker night and then he won't show up at least 80% of the time. And we all know he's at home playing WoW again. Or sometimes he'll actually tell you he can't due to WoW... he'll say something like "Sorry, guys, I already signed up for a 40-man raid with my guild that night" (yeah, have a freaking website where they sign up for raids weeks in advance). I tell him to just skip it and he'll say he can't because he already signed up. WTF?? It's a God damned game!! Just skip the freaking raid which you have already done 150 times! ! But, no, he'll go do his raid.

You sound very bitter, guess you weren't very good at making friends so you could actually see some of the end game. I play the game now more than ever because of the people I've met, and I'm really looking forward to the expansion.

Right now the game is not in a good state for end game players because since the expansion which comes out in a month is a rebalancing of sorts, so we're stuck in limbo so to speak, with not a lot of raiding going on, mostly just pvp. Once the expansion comes out, that will all change though, so I'm pretty excited about that.

It is absolutely addicting. I have several friends who started with Everquest and switched over to WoW. Here's the pros and cons IMHO.

Pros:
1) Social interaction with a wide variety of people you might not otherwise meet.
2) Your game addiction only runs you ~$15/month.
3) The only reason to upgrade your machine is WoW 2.
4) Might meet your future wife (happened to a friend of mine actually).

Cons:
1) Social interaction with people in the real world is much more limited.
2) You miss out on a lot of really cool games.
3) You might have a stroke and die (this happened to a friend of mine playing Everquest).
4) The level 60 grind gets boring eventually and you put all that time into a character that will just fade away.
5) You will irritate your friends to the point they won't want to be around you because when you get 2 or more WoW players together for lunch, the topic of conversation always gravitates to WoW.
6) If you ever have children, then you can either get a divorce (if married) or forget playing WoW.

Well I'm glad to see that there are truely people out there that play games ONLY for graphics. Do you even consider the gameplay aspect? Case in point... for you RTS guys, Total Annihilation. I was playing this game on my old gateway 2000 P120 box. I still play it today. Why? It is a fantastic game. Graphics? They absolutely suck compared to anything in the recent years. WoW has been out for over 2 years now. And personally, I don't think the graphics suck at all. The worlds are expansive and generally well designed. While there have been weekends that I have done little else than play WoW, I don't consider myself to be a hard core player. I like this game because my wife plays it as well. It offers many different styles of play, from PvP battlegrounds to questing and raids. You can play with 39 other people in huge dungeons or play by yourself. The social aspect is a big part of it too, especially if you are part of a good guild. Sure, there are plenty of negatives about the game. But it has more to do with what you enjoy playing, and what you look for in a game. If you give it a chance and still don't enjoy it, then the genre probably just isn't for you. I've been playing for over 2 years now, and still get alot of enjoyment out of it. Not to mention you can run it at max settings on a X800XL, which is a plus if you're on a budget! I had a friend that played it on a GeForce2 with acceptable framerates. Crazy!

Anyone who has played Diablo 2 knows what it is like. Always wanting the loot, the levels, but most importantly the loot. It's like a drug, you want more but to get more you have to devote more time to it.

Basically WoW is a perfection of what made Diablo 2 addictive. Trust me they made the game addictive the same way Diablo 2 was, but instead it's much much bigger.

I don't care how awesome WoW is I will NEVER play it because I saw how much diablo 2 consumed me. If Diablo 2 could consume my life for months on end imagine what WoW could do.

lick my bawlz nub. I spend a few months playing eq2 when it first came out, i went to wow for awhile, gave it a good try, got 2 level 60's, then I realized every time I logged in it was the same retarded crap all the time, so I went back to eq2 when pvp servers came out and have been fully satisfied with it. IMO everyone that plays wow is ghey. now get off my nutz kid.

I've never really stepped out of the world of FPS games on PC besides some Company of Heroes.

instead of TV, you play online.

it's better than tv because it's interactive. you join up w/a guild and form comaradre. but you dont have to. it;s fun by yourself too.

i used to be HEAVY diablo II. it was us vs the computer. very little PvP.

i also used to be Heavy into AOE II. there i joined a clan because it was easier/better/more reliable when you fight vs other players.

i never got into WoW. I found Warcraft III to be meh.

in fact i find most games stale. it's just repackaged old games.

but i'm dying to play Supreme Commander

I love posts like this. Blanket statements, personal attacks, and then he calls the other guy a kid. You're probably that 12 year old that got pissed that your repeated beggings for gold handouts or pleas to be run through (insert low level instance here) got you nowhere. "lick my bawlz nub". That just makes me laugh. I'm guessing that you must be all out of your energy drink, and it's making you cranky. I can't stand EQ2. Does that automatically make you "ghey"? No. It just means we are 2 different people with 2 different opinions. Grow the fvck up and learn that not everyone else on the planet will think like you. After all, diversity is the spice of life, as some say.

EQ2's run by Sony - I don't need unauthorized rootkit spyware on my PC, Thanks.

I played EQ1 for a couple years while its original lead dev was there, and a couple more after he left and Sony started ruining the game and treating us like sh!t. I haven't played Planetside or SW:G, but I can fully relate to the horror stories of people who quit those games regardless. After all, we experienced the same virus: Sony/SOE.

The mature EQ2 playerbase making an appearance, I see ;) It's not surprising, with how hard Sony/SOE screws its customers, you have to be young and a little bit stupid to remain a customer.
