Ok, I gotta ask... What's the big deal with WoW?

I have never played any Warcraft game, besides maybe 5 minutes total of Warcraft III.

I see people playing WoW all the time. It seems like everyone is doing it. At least 2-3 people in any starbucks at any time, at least 10 people a day at school and even my friends that dont know anything about computers play it. My buddy's 57 year old Dad smokes pot and then plays WoW.

I've also noticed that people who play it, dont just play it casually, they are obsessed.

Is there something I should know about this game? Does it mess with your brain like a hallucinogen or something?

I've never really stepped out of the world of FPS games on PC besides some Company of Heroes.

I played WOW with a free trial and didn't like it at all. I don't see what's so great about MMORPG's.

Well Diablo 2 was popular, right? Well, WoW is literally about 1,000x bigger than Diablo 2. That's why it's so popular.

And no, people who play WoW do have a life...they just spend more of their at home life playing WoW instead of watching TV or neffing.

you get put on time sinks.
First it's the leveling time sink, then the raiding time sink, then the loot time sink.

In the end, it's not fun but since you've come all this way you just keep doing it.

A LOT of it has to do w/ the social aspect of it.

Did you do any dungeons? Did you play the battlegrounds? Did you do any class-specific quests? Did you join a guild? Did you level up your professions?

If not, then you barely scratched the beginning levels of the game.

WoW is awesome. Only other game I think I played as obsessively was the original Quake/Quakeworld.

You need to cool your jets there buddy.

I only asked because I see people playing it all the time. Its weird when your friends that give you crap for being into computers get obsessed with a computer game.

It seems like its a social phenomenon and I want to know what is so addicting about this game.

BooGiMaN just said it's a mix between crack and mind control... AND a hamster wheel?

Wouldnt you be curious?

Also, the game changes one you get up there in the high levels.

I don't think the OP was putting WoW players down.

I didn't get very far into it. Just leveled up a little and quick.

Yeah they're right, the game changes do different looking cartoon crap graphics as you get higher and higher. It's so cool. Who needs saturday morning cartoons anymore when you can play an MMO that LOOKS like a cartoon and is filled with annoying children! yay

I think one of the most attractive element of WoW is how nice the leveling curve is.
Also, they try to introduce new elements every 10 levels to keep you going (e.g. lvl 10 skills, lvl 40 mounts, etc.), which is often not present in other MMORPG's. Take Ragnarok Online, you play literally for months upon months, and your still only a n00b. That's too much commitment with little to no real progress.

Although, personally, I still think WoW is a waste of money, it's a lot better than other MMO's out there.

no, but we have threads like this like once a week or when someone posts a legit wow thread. you can't post a wow or mmorpg thread without some douchebag coming in and saying its addictive and ruins your life, don't play it!

posts like Pause's:

WoW doesn't really start until you're lvl 60. You only get a small taste of things if you didn't level up that far.

awesome!! so if you're a moderate to average player you have to play the game for a couple months or more..... BEFORE THE GAME REALLY STARTS?! The game fvcking sucks, admit it, and then go play eq2

wow someones bitter, that blue item you been grinding for didnt drop?

i for one like the unique look of WoW...better than some of the games that try the realistic-look approach...to me that looks silly...
