Ok, a little history/info. I have a Core i7 920 OC'd to 3.6ghz with 6gb of memory. I have a Kingston SSD for a main and several HD's for storage. I also have a Radeon HD6700 series Video Card. This setup has run flawlessly for me for well over a year now, probably much longer than I realize.

Anywho, I use this PC as my main rig. I do everything from internet browsing to media in the bedroom to some light gaming. I have had ZERO issues with this system...up until recently.

I run the latest build of Kodi on a 60" Mitsubishi as a second display, and use my primary 23" HP display for gaming, etc. I often times run Kodi on the Mitsu with the fiance watching while I game on the 23". Only recently has my issue cropped up. When I try to start Kodi, it hangs forever (think 20min+) before it starts up. Also, if I try to play media files directly via Windows media Player, it'll open and start playing but I can't interact with the program for a while; no play, pause, stop, nothing. I can, however, open and play files normally via VLC. Very, very weird.

I've updated my K-Lite kodec pack, have the latest Windows updates, ran Microsoft Security Essentials, updated my video card drivers, updated/reinstalled Directx and tried reinstalling Kodi. Nothing. I'm getting REALLY frustrated.

The ONLY thing different about the PC is I've installed Sim City 5 (2013, whatever).

Does anyone have ANY idea what the hell is going on here? Any direction or suggestions are appreciated as I'm about ready to wipe and start over!

I haven't used K-Lite in years. VLC seems to have all the codecs I need. Try uninstalling K-Lite and see if anything improves.

I did some looking and found this thread:

Not the same thing, but just wondering if you have any devices like this installed that may be holding it up.

Try media player classic, its been my go-to media center for a while now. Not that you asked, but I use Foobar2000 for music too and I love it.

For media storage, are the HDs in a NAS or similar, or directly installed in the PC? I know Kodi will sometimes wait for network access at startup.

Guys, I just wanted to come back here and post what I discovered the problem to be. I started doing some more digging with the PC and opened up the my Event Log. I discovered something unusual; page after page after page after page after page (you get it) of "cdrom" error's stating it had a "bad block". This was especially weird considering I didn't have a disc in the drive. But wait...I have Daemon tools installed. It turns out after I installed Sim City, I moved the .iso file I used. Daemon didn't recognize that I did that and made the virtual drive point to a virtual image that wasn't there. I had to restart in Safe Mode to be able to remove the "faulty" virtual drive, but that did the trick. PC is back to lickity split now.
