Ok, I can understand people riding their bikes on the road

But why in the world would you take your two kids (both under the age of 10) with you? Here's the situation:

I'm driving on a busy one lane road near my house when I pull up behind a trio: mother riding the bike, her 5-6 year old daughter by her side (she had enough brains to place herself between her daughter and traffic). Her 10 year old son was riding about 20 feet ahead of them. I was afraid that either of the kids is going to fall of the bike (the daughter didn't look like she really knew how to ride) under the wheels of a car.

If you want to ride the bike then why won't you go to a public park or other place where your kids aren't in danger? Is there any common sense left in the world these days?

If they went to the park, people would post on here about how today's kids are pussies and can't handle playing in traffic like the good old days.

How do you know they weren't on their way to the park?

Anyways, i began riding my bike ALONE well before age 10.

When I was in Denver, my cousin's wedding was actually in Golden, CO. We went up Look Out mountain for some sightseeing and there was a guy on his road bike TOWING AN INFANT behind him in one of those enclosure things. Up a mountain. With near hairpin turns.

WTF is wrong with people.

i HATE bikers that ride on the damn road.

you know those bumper stickers that say "Share the road" and have a picture of a bike on it? Well I wish I had one that was the exact opposite that said "Get the hell off the road" that had a car on top of a bike as the picture.

On busy streets? You parents must not have liked you very much 🙂

Why wouldn't you? People are always complaining that kids don't get out enough. The danger is equal for anyone who rides a bike next to the road.

Bikers get ticketed if they don't stay on the road. They have the same rights as a car.

Actually I'd love one of those, but I'd only put it on if I had a bike rack or mt bike stickers or something. I don't give a damn how tight your Spandex shorts are, there is no reason to ride a bike on a busy 2 lane (each way) main road. Go the long way, you'll get a better workout anyway. It's all about showing off and being a manly man, and it's annoying.

well then why don't they follow the same damn rules as a car? i ALWAYS see bikers weaving inbetween cars at red lights, going through red lights, going 20mph below the speed limit, etc.

they need to get ticketed for all that crap too then. fvck them.

That's a different issue. I follow the rules 😛

Um you do know that Bicycles are allowed to share the road.. and there are no age limits on the ability to do so...
there was parental supervision and they were minding thier own business.. why dont you just go around them and let them have thier family outing...

This Irks the crap out of me.. becasue a similar situation happened to me and my girlfriend who were out riding bikes yesterday in our neighborhood area...

we are on a public 4 lane road.. 2 lanes each way...
we were in our lane riding in a line... not side by side..
and some asshat in an Escalade with spinners and 20s on it comes up behind us.. and refuses to go around.. instead cursing at us to get off the road that it is for cars only..

my girlfriend was behind me and this guy was tailgating her on purpose and shouted obseneties at us for over a mile...
there was no traffic and he coulda gone around at any time..
I had to call the cops and give his tag number and he still didnt let up...
finally our turn came up and he sped off but not before cursing at us again out the window...

bikes are allowed on the streets.. it seems that America seems to have forgotten that bicycles are a valid means of transportation and laws state except on highways and freeways where it is posted no pedestrian driven cycles.. we have the right to be there...

Case in point.

He could have been 10 or 50. Age has nothing to do with it. All it takes is one inconsiderate ass who doesn't give some room to the biker to cause an accident.

what would the cops have done? he wasn't doing anything illegal. granted he was being an a$$hole.

And they do.

I've always stopped at stop signs, it bugs me to no end when someone just rides on and ignores the sign.

Man you guys are morons or got your drivers license with the breakfast cereal. I do however understand You are pissed at bikers weaving in and out of traffic.

It's not rocket science to give way and NOT pass a biker 3" from him. All bikers I see when I drive sticks to the far right side of the road and there are never ANY problems making a safe pass unless you drink coffee, read the newspaper and talk on the phone at the same time. I almost got ran over yesterday BTW by some punk-ass kids.

As for taking your kids on teh road, well that's a problem and the parents should be very careful. It can be done safely but you need to teach your kids about traffic rules and of course make sure they know how to bike.

there are different kinds of bikers on the road. i read your thread, and yes, where you were riding woulnd't bother me if i was driving and had to pass you. the ones that piss me off are when I'm making my turn from a 3 lane road onto another 3 lane road about to get onto the interstate highway, and there are bikers on this road. THOSE kind of bikers piss me off, and they are also the ones who weave in and out of traffic at the lights, will run the red light if no cars are coming, etc.

if you are riding your bike on a park-street or on a little country road and i have to pass you, then no, that doesn't bother me the slightest. it is just the bikers in the situation I explained above that piss the crap out of me.

I wouldn't. No fvcking way.

When my son starts riding I'm going to take him to one of the many bike paths in San Diego. Certainly not on any main roads though.

It also amazes me when I see people riding on the road with their kid/kids in one of those pull along trailers (or whatever they're called).

The only time I weave between cars at a red light is when some asswipe doesn't leave enough room for me to pass between him and the curb or parked cars. I used to ride to work once a week and I'm not going to wait for 80 cars that are just parked idling when I can easily move through/around them.

I obey all traffic lights and stop signs though.

he was threatenting us with bodily harm more than once... theatening to run my girlfriend down and speeding up then getting less than a foot from her rear wheel...

young black gangster druglord wannabes in a upper middle class predominantly white neighborhood...
obviously feeling repressed and angry.. and wanting to start crap with his 4 other gangster wannabe freinds with him...

he threatened me with physical violence more than once... (ie step off the bike and we will make you and her move...) rather than face 5 large black men vs one average white guy and a tiny girl I called the cops..

IMO thats perfect reason to call the cops...

agreed on all counts

on my bike, I have been hit by motorists failing to obey basic traffic laws...

an unmarked cop tboned me after blowing a stopsign

a police expedition drove down the center of a two lane street in 6 inches of snow while I was desperatley hugging a tire track and sideswiped me

a black explorer made an illegal turn on red, put my handlebars through his headlight, me on his hood and fled the scene while I was still coming to on the ground....

I hate cyclicsts on the road as much as anyone.... I think they certainly don't belong on roads with blind corners or where it is impossible for a vehicle to safley pass.

The badly needed "enough is enough, motorists stfu" comes in when dealing with cyclists commuting in 25mph residential and urban areas
