This is my sisters computer and she wants it faster. Its a intel celeron 500mhz. How do I overclock it, and to what mhz can I overclock it too? Thanks

Celeron 500s don't overclock well.

Firstly they are multiplier locked.

You should be able to reach 562MHz (7.5 x 75MHz FSB), but don't count on anything better, as these are close to the top of the .25 micron physical limit.

I have a Celeron 550 that clocks to 850@ 1.85V.

Depending on your mobo and your equipment you might have simiilar luck.

some other options if your motherboard is able to do it.
-You might get more, less, or no options at all, depending on your motherboard:

fsb multiplier result
66.66666 mhz * 7.5 = 500 mhz
83.33333 mhz * 7.5 = 625 mhz
100 mhz * 7.5 = 750 mhz

I don't remember when intel started converting celeron to .18 micro(533mhz?)...
Even with water cooling, it'll be hard/imposible? to get a celeron .25 micron to 750 mhz

ShinSa, your celeron 566 is .18 micron, so its different.

Well my mobo is a gigabyte GA-6VX74X VIA Apollo Pro Family AGPset here is a link to the specs: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/products/products.htm Thanks for any help guys. And by the way a friend of mine had a celeron 500mhz running at 800mhz, but he isnt the one who overclocked it so he doesnt know how to do it. Thanks Sorry for some reason it wont give me a direct link to the page. So you have to go up to the socket 370 link, and then scroll down to just under the middle of the page. Sorry.

the .25 micron core had a very hard time hitting higher than 600Mhz

566 is about as high as you'll get that chip.

pick up a 533A or higher (.18u), and OC that 🙂

No Celeron below 533MHz is going to reach more than 600MHz.

A Pentium III 500E can do it, but unless you have a Celeron 533A, you are not going to do it.

That would of been a Celeron 566 which is a 0.18 micron process ,as RadioactiveMagpies said its a totally different story with the 0.25 CPU's ,which were Cel 533 & lower

I take it this is your board?
Without going through the time of downloading the pdf manual myself(on 56k dialup) I will have to assume that your board has the options to change the FSB in the bios ,(don't you have the manual?).Increase the FSB to 75MHz ,its very unlikely it'll run at 83MHz though.
Is that enough info? ,if not I'll download the manual

(btw re the link ,just right click & 'copy shortcut' 🙂)
