Either they did use special effects or many isuzus were harmed during the production of this film.

wtf how do the 4 cars do 360 turns by themselves with no smoke? shens.

IIRC those are actually pretty good cars.

Amazing! It made me want one. Seriously.

Well, maybe not. It was still really cool, though.

I loved the part towards the end with the red and yellow one doing the close formation reverse manuvers.

The first segment (formation driving) was straight up professional driving (and I think is the basis for prettymuch every car commercial today, hahaha) - except the flying ones. Those were probably launched off a cannon or something. After that, it gets cheap stage tricky. Still no "special effects" as we think of them today, though (editing)

Some of those 2-wheel balance scenes and some of the jump scenes looked to be legitimate ramp and balance action, though.

In the subway, they could handbrake the corner, but there was a frame where it looked like the rear wheel turned too. Too compressed to tell. No cannons. Just ramps. Cannons leave a "smoke" trail (Freejack used a cannon to fire the Formula Atlantic replica into the turn 11 bridge at Road Atlanta. The compressed air had a vapor trail.)

the 4-cars-360 part was probably done by placing the cars on a merry-a-go-round platform. I don't think all 4 cars spin in harmony.

but the rest... oh boy, that's some good old fashion driving skill.
