Ok guys.....where's the best Samurize configs??

Sounds nice. I was getting ready to ask which was the best Weather script. I just recently got the one working that I have, but I don't like it too much.

to use that u need to d/l weathplus .5 then update it to .53


from all the ones i have used. i like weatherplus the best. and i think i tried all of the weatherscripts in there.
even though weathplus is the hardest to setup, atleast to me.

You know, that's exactly what I came to ask you. It keeps showing me from San Diego? lol. Anyways, that's what I was thinking. I may have a couple of more questions once this doesn't work again.......

Joph, one more question. I have the RefreshWeatherPlus.vbs running every hour. I now can get my city, temps, and forecast to show correctly. How do I manipulate the weather icons to show correctly? I have the TmpImgForecast 1 through 4. Are these for the today and the 3 days that lie ahead? Any explanation on what these files do and how I should place them?

Ok, I've actually got this thing figured out. I assume now that the file, tmpImgMainInfo.png, is what I use for current weather, and tmpImgForecast 1 through 5 are for the 5 days lying ahead. The script will automatically change those icons depending on the results returned for that specific day, am I correct?

One more question, when do they update the forecast? I ask because I got everything running last night, and everything was actually correct. I double checked with weather settings from weather.com, which seemed to be the exact same. However, I get up this morning, turn on the comp, and my samurize starts up. All the temps looked right, and the precip %'s changed a bit. And the current temp and wind and everything changed and looked fine as well.

But it still shows the forecast for Wed, Thu, and Fri. I went to the XML site that it pulls this data from, and it everything was right. At what time of the morning do they change the forecast to reflect correctly?

yeah i had problems with the forecast for the upcoming days also. it wouldnt display them correctly or say the wrong name, or just not come up at all. im not sure what the problem is, so i just got angry with it and have just display todays weather. there might be something wrong in the refreshweather.vb file or something. im not a coder so i cant tell. and the only other problem i have with it, is when the task sched runs and im working on something, it seems to close the program and load another instance of samurize. i dont understand that either but i still like the weather program

i can look out the window to see the condition of the weather, but i cant just look out and so. hmm that looks like 42 degrees. i use the weather program to tell me the temp, the display of weather condition is just an added bonus.

I can't get the ExtendedWeather.vbs script that I got from aphex's other thread to work. I don't know any vbs, but I'm guessing that the problem lies in the fact that the tmp file with the data is outputted with nothing in it. Could this be because weather.com just implemented popups after you search for your city (I think they just implemented that)? The weather.com script also doesn't work.

it really irritates me that you have to use task scheduler for the weather updates. why couldn't they make it a little more intuitive?

the only reason u use task scheduler is so that the icons will update, if you dont want the icons to update you dont need to use it. there is no other way of refreshing it that i can think of. since all the info is being drawn from a website.

What file do you set task scheduler to refresh?

With the particular weather script we are discussing, the WeatherPlus5.3, the file to run in Task Scheduler is RefreshWeatherPlus, in the Scripts directory. Mine is now working correctly. The forecast temps and icons show correctly.

are you able to get forecast for the upcoming weathers? i have problems with them stiil the will display correctly at one point then after a couple refreshes its gets all screwy. oh well. all i need is the current weather.



and to add the file to the task sched. all i did was copy and paste it into the task scheduler and then config it to run every hour for 24 hours a day

Yes. My forecasts are highly accurate compared to weather.com (actually, they match exactly...hmmmmmm). The icons work perfectly, everything works great. I love the forecast right on my desktop. I usually don't think to go to weather.com to check, and I never watch my local news. I actually see now what it's supposed to do in a couple of days, and it helps me plan out. It's great!

Someone really needs to write up a step-by-step tutorial for all of us newbies to the Samurize program. I have it downloaded but just have never messed with it. I foresee many useless hours being spent this weekend messing with this. Thanks alot!!!

Mess around with it. It really isn't that difficult once you figure out the basics. But it CAN get quite frustrating at times.

Samurize Picture Tutorial

That was made by one of the Samurize guys themselves. But like someone else said, if you have any basic knowledge of the workings of a computer, you'll kick yourself for not understanding it sooner.
