I have save up $150 for a DVD/CD drive. 🙂

I want the best for the money and it has to work with NT 4.0.

To be honest, I'm kind of new into DVD which I never own one before.

My computer is powerful enough (read my signature) so that software decoder is acceptable.

One thing I'm concern about, I'm planning on moving back to UK and I want to be able to play the DVD over there. So, the question is which is the best DVD that I can change the regional code??

Can you hook the DVD drive to the main TV?
How big the resolution can DVD go?

Thanks in advanced. 🙂

Get a Pioneer 104S, somewhere out there there is a region free BIOS for it..

I think DVD Genie might allow you to play DVDs of any region as well...

I'll see if I can find the Region free BIOS link for you...

Thanks. 🙂

Should I get Hollywood+ since I'm planning on use the DVD on the main 21" TV?

I've heard that Pioneer are too loud?

What about Toshiba?

Try a search here. I've commented on this 3 times now in the past 2 days alone. There are many good threads on this to be read.

Just do a search in the hardware forum for DVD there are quite a few.
For the issue of Hollywood plus, I think you should get one, I've commented on them twice recently: here and here (I have two posts in the 2nd link, it's my 2nd that I talk about the H+).

The Pioneer is moderately loud...definately louder than my Yamaha CDRW, the reason I recommend it over the quieter Toshiba is the region free BIOS so you can play DVDs from US and UK on it.

here's the region free BIOS page There appear to be Region free BIOSes for the Toshiba to 🙂 So if you concerned with noise you could try one of them to, the Toshiba is suppose to be quite quiet and reliable (i've never used one myself)

Oh just a side note, the Pioneer is not loud when playing DVDs becuase it's only spinning at 1X so it's not going very fast and is not loud at all. When spinning up CDs at 40X it can be a tad loud.
