Ya so your gonna spend the extra money to run it on dual channel? When are you doing to buy the ram? Soon or in a long time? How do you know the chips will have the same density?

it is not like gadzookie said he wanted to run a p4 in single channel, it is a64 single core where the performance hit is not too much, she will probably wouldn't notice it.

So basically, if you get a 3400+ on 754 running on single channel, it will outperform a 3500+ which COSTS MORE running on single channel. Defenetly Does not make sense.

but the 939 platform has more room for upgrades - x2 and then buy another 1GB stick. remember this is for a person who i doubt would really benchmark it if she isn't doing the research to get the info. in the long run i thnk the 939 would be better

Why upgrade when the 754 setup will probably last a long time? Not everyone upgrades religiously you know. If your upgrading, your probably putting the part you upgraded from to waste! Some people actually buy computuers and use them for the whole lifespan, only perphaps putting a few new PCI cards in them or giving it an extra stick of ram.

i agree as i have had my current rig, except video card for 1.5yrs, which is a long time for me. i am not saying to upgrade quickly, but by the time the SC 939 is not able to perform the given tasks, the op can put a x2 in it and basically have a whole new computer. even if amd is not making 939 x2 when this happens, he could pick one up used cheap. with the skt754 you have no upgrade path whatsoever, as i don't think amd can make a x2 skt754.

but it is not a huge difference and i doubt the "target" audience will not notice it at all, then in a couple years, the op can look like a true star by putting in a x2 and another 1GB of ram :D and then maybe hook us up with some pics of the "target" audience for this particular machine.

this setup by gadzookie is ~$200 cheaper and includes a larger hdd and monitor compared to a similiar setup at ibuypower with a smaller hdd and no monitor, so it doesn't seem like that good of a deal to go through them. this setup is something i would build in a heartbeat if i needed a ~$1000 machine, again good job gadzookie.

just out of curiosity, what is a gadzookie?

exactly what i was thinking. i am sure in 3 days it will be full with all kinds of ims programs and stoopid email faces, and of course viruses and spyware. run away, quickly :D

Quoted for everyone who seems to be foolishly spec'ing out a system and not considering who it's going to.
